My teachers were incredibly well-meaning, and some very knowledgeable, and many of my classes were extremely rewarding, but, as I was forced to reflect, there was one important component missing. The atmosphere was not conducive to learning. Students attended with the intention of partying, met the baseline standards for graduation, and left. There was no impetus for achievement, and no real consequences for such irresponsible actions unless they did not comply with the law (and even then, police were lenient).
This lackadaisical attitude toward education is, in truth, my primary reason for transferring. I want to attend a school where students strive for the attainment of a good academic experience, as opposed to a degree. Too often have I heard the words “it’s just a piece of paper that you need to get a job,” trivializing the entire purpose for education – to pursue knowledge and higher understanding; to reduce the enormity of your ignorance; to produce art and gain an appreciation for the art of others. I wish to attend a university where these are the guiding
