Five values that stand out in my system of values are fidelity, altruism, helping, perseverance, and resourcefulness. At the core of my identity, I place the most weight on fidelity because it shows commitment, allows the building of trust in the presence of honesty, and exhibits an individual’s ability to carry out his/her promises. In times of suffering and difficulty, effort and belief keep me focused on improving and reaching my goals. It shows that you are always willing to push on and continually work toward success. For me, I learned the most about perseverance during my undergraduate years. At a time when school work was pressing and the preparing for the DAT was constantly on my mind, my grandmother fell terminally ill and my dad got laid off. I was mentally spent from school and emotionally split by the rigors of life; at the time, I had thoughts of simply giving up but through introspection, I was able to reorient myself and hold onto my goals. Granted, I did not neglect the matters at home, but I was encouraged by them to fight just as they were. My dad and grandma told me that nothing in this world comes easy; everything takes hard work.
