Reflective Essay: The Value Of Leadership

Decent Essays
Leadership is a big part of my life. Being responsible for a large group of people and participating in situations where leadership played a big role shaped me to be the person who I am today. It is a very crucial characteristic that all societies need to function properly, achieve goals, and maintain order and peace. People don't work for a leader; they work with them and together have many great accomplishments. The value of leadership is high, especially in learning environments that help shape people into who they are and prepare them for the rest of their lives and I am glad I can say that I played a role in that. My major experience with leadership was being my school's Class of 2016 Student Council President. Student government, unifying students, managing responsibility, and taking initiative have always been passions and interests of mine. From my few years of presidency, I can confidently say that I know, through experience, what qualities an educational society requires of a leader. As the head of council, I took everyone's ideas and helped link them together in order to accomplish multiple goals. A few of these ideas were how to raise money for the various organizations we sponsored, such as the Humane Society. We came together and one of our ideas was collecting cans and bottles that were going to be thrown away anyway and recycling them for money, which would buy food, blankets, towels, and more for the animals' health and care. We also worked hard to benefit our student population by pitching ideas for school activities that brought students together around the school while also making education a fun and positive experience for everyone involved. All of these, and more, achievements were made possible through hard work, dedication, and the unification of the student population.

It is important that we exercise our God given right to utilize our sphere of influence to the best of our abilities. Although leadership may gain you more recognition throughout society it is not about the affluence one can acquire; leading is solely about guiding others down a path of success so that future generations can more easily learn from our mistakes to pass down to the next generation. That is why I believe mentoring and any position of leadership should be central to young adults to set the example for the impactful youth. I think leadership is an important aspect that one needs to show daily throughout their life. In school I’ve shown leadership through helping my friends and others with homework or any class work. Knowing that I am able to help them and advise them through what they’re doing makes me feel good about myself. When I have work to do in class, I prefer to settle myself down and get what I need to get done before I socialize which is another way I have demonstrated leadership. Through sports I’ve laid out leadership by showing good sportsmanship and working together to be able to succeed.…
