As I read the book I was assigned to do as a summer project named “ The Secret Life of Bees,” I realized I had been missing out on the meaning behind each book I had ever read. While annotating “The Secret Life of Bees,” I found myself showing favoritism towards certain characters and drawing personal connections with them. Annotating my book helped me find the meanings of small things people would consider pointless or unnecessary. Keeping track of what I was reading also helped me remember important events and characters as I approached the ending of the novel. In class we watched “The Princess Bride,” a movie that showed all the steps of the hero’s journey cycle, and looked at different types of archetypes as well. Let alone that, I created my characters for the story I illustrated on a comic strip by doing my research on different archetypes and choosing the accurate one for each character. The hero’s journey project allowed me to think outside the box and come up with a short story over a boy band that leaves me speechless. The story embraced my creativity by being vibrant and amusing in each box I produced. Crediting this assignment, I would say it has opened my eyes in noticing what the hero’s journey and the different archetypes for books and movies
