The Final Test
I passed the final test, but they didn’t. It all started with my class, called the “9ers”. We were the first class to ever have their whole grade graduate on the same day. We were the smartest of them all, is what the counselor told us. All we had to do was pass the final test to figure out who were leaving to go to the new community. Every year our counselor picked a small section of our Country and gives each person who passed the final test a new and improved home. Everyone gets a home and food on our plate three times a day. We, the “9ers”, were told that if at least half the class passes, we will get the best part of the country. Our parents had told us that the final test was the hardest test ever known to exist. My whole class started stealing books from stores and food from homes. When they didn’t get what they wanted, they burned the buildings closest to them with one simple word...destroy. Why did robots control us was the main question. I suspected that the adults in our community were either lazy or didn't have the knowledge to give us the facts we need to live. We called the robots “they.¨ “They” were supposed to command anything and everything for us. If we were to use the word destroy, everything in sight would be destroyed or blown up by them. “Destroy was permitted,” is what the counselor told us. My class , the “9ers,” was worried about the test, except for me. I had tried to ask my parents to give me some pointers, but it was forbidden in our Country to give any answer or clues to the final test. While I was doing that, my classmates were destroying their half of the community. My parents and I lived in the “rich,” part of the community. We had a building, called the Council's Office, separating the poorer parts and the richer parts. We lived in the rich part because both my parents had passed the final test, and that was their
