Reflective Essay: The Duluth Public School System

Decent Essays
The duluth public school system has helped me by setting me up with a network of teachers that go above and beyond to support me inside and outside of school. In the honors courses that I have taken the teachers have provided me with an environment that I learned best in . They provided me with the methods that I needed to excel in the classroom. They challenged me to think outside of the box and not take the easy way. Because I wanted to exceed everyone's expectations of me I took harder classes and went the extra mile. The teachers acknowledged that but did not let me off the hook. Even though the classes were hard, the teachers that i had made them enjoyable. I looked forward to coming to class each day. The teachers also took time …show more content…
The number of clubs available to me at east high school made finding something that I loved to do easy and fun. I was able to meet new people and challenge myself in new ways. After injuring myself and not being able to play contact sports I joined the swim team. With the excellent coaching I was able to get my strength back. The school clubs also set me up with ways to reach out in my community. Key Club, NHS, and Sterling Strings have brought me new opportunities to experience the world outside of highschool and make it a better place for anyone. The school also has excellent staff and guidance counselors. Whenever I had a problem or was just stressed out about school I had someone to go to. The fact that I had someone to talk to improved my mental health during my four years in school and that is something that I value greatly. East High School brought to me a sense of community. With all of the assemblies and school wide activities i felt like i had a place here. Like i was important. Doing well in classes and learning new things are important to me but i also value a place where relationships can grow. The community is diverse and introduced me to different cultures and backgrounds. Without the experiences that i gained from going to a Duluth Public School I would not be the person that I am

There are various reasons as to why I’m deserving of the Etna-Dixmont School Scholarship. The most prevalent reason is my family history and connection with the town of Dixmont. My father and my grandparents moved to from Massachusetts to Dixmont, Maine when he was in second grade. My grandfather bought a house on Route 9 in Dixmont, and some other land in addition to that. The Dixmont Corner Church was built in 1835, and had an active one room school house next to it that was built in 1808.…

Governor’s School Last summer, I attended governor's school west where three hundred and twenty-five bright and open-minded students from all across North Carolina gathered for five and a half weeks in a college campus setting. To me, this was a big milestone in life that changed me for the better. We left our cozy lives of families and friends to start with a clean slate with strangers we’ve never seen in our lives. At first, we thought of it as a sacrifice of our summer to glamorize our college application, but throughout the program we experienced things that exceeded beyond our expectations.…

Stop Saying That the Public Schools in North Carolina Are Awful There are always teenagers complaining about the certain things they do not like about their schools; for example, if their next class is far away from the one they are now, if the school’s bus is late almost every day, or for what reason do they have to go to school if they do not want? I understand not everybody in North Carolina likes the way in how the public schools in this state work, but if we focus more on their good side like their installations, services, and educational system, we will find how wonderful these schools are. First, the installations of the public schools in North Carolina are not as bad as many of all us think. As a foreign student, I have had the opportunity to see the differences between the public schools in Mexico City and those in North Carolina, and I have found that the ones in this state are awesome.…
