Cutting precisely on the lines, making sure I didn’t stray and accidently cut out part of an article, I carefully extracted the Sudoku puzzle from the daily newspaper before my father came to the breakfast table to read it. Then, working as fast as I could, I began deciphering the puzzle, eliminating numbers I knew didn’t belong in a certain box and writing, in tiny print, all the numbers that could potentially fit. Gradually, as the pieces came together, the completed puzzle unfolded. I glanced at the clock, scarfed down my cereal (which had gone soggy), and raced out the door just in time to catch the bus. During my hour long bus ride to school I would reflect on how I had solved the puzzle, wondering if there was a better way to approach…

Learning to write When I attended elementary school, part of the curriculum was penmanship. There was a certain segment of instruction dedicated to penmanship rather than writing. We were given large sheets of oat colored paper with three parallel lines widely spaced. The alphabets were used to print and write in cursive using the midpoint, and upper lines for capital letters. The handwriting grades were based on neatness and readability.…

For absolutely no reason, other than I thought it might interest me, I took human anatomy and physiology and that has helped give me an edge in different scenarios. From human anatomy and physiology I learned the basic human structure with bones, tendons, ligaments, and muscles as well as some of the basic systems for the human body; such as the cardiovascular, urinary, and digestive tract. This has benefitted me quite a bit since that class two years ago. One instance was when we learned about the digestive tract and how that functions in relation to different foods. I began to notice my sister getting sick frequently and did a little digging into her food history and when approximately she began to feel queasy.…

To me, writing is just ok, nothing special. It definitely isn’t something I get excited about. My first formal writing class was in 6th grade, where we followed The Institute for Excellence in Writing’s curriculum. My fellow classmates and I mainly wrote short, 1-3 paragraph reports on various historical topics. I did well in these classes, I just never really enjoyed the process of writing.…

The research essay I just completed for comp2 probably taught me the most. It taught me to really read a source, and search for the factors that make it a credible source to use. It also taught me to manage my time, most of our essays before were just analysis of other writings and writers, but this Essay required at least seven pages and a lot of research. By doing all the research and then writing the paper I really learned how to use my time to properly accomplish everything that the essay required, by the time it was due. Comp2 has changed the way I write for the better.…

Viewing the past four essays shows the progress and decline of my writing style, and structure. The four essays that were required by the class varied from the best to the worst, both having their similarities and differences. Choosing two out of the four essays, I came to a conclusion that the “process analysis” essay was the best, and the worst essay was the “descriptive” essay. Although it varied from their definitions and structure, the essay’s showed how much the writer, put their work into it. The certain characteristics that made it the worst to the best defined how well the essay would turn out to be.…
