Reflective Essay: Strengthening The Writing Process

Decent Essays
This class has taught me so much in ways of the writing process. I feel confident in moving forward with writing. I was a little intimidated at first by the expository essay, however, once I jumped into the class, it quickly became fun, educational. and helped strengthen my writing, and helped me realize my weaknesses. The biggest struggle I have had is the intext citations, and citing them properly, but since I have utilized the GCU resources, this I feel, is now under control. I look forward to growing more as writer, and look forward to my next research essay.

Writing has always been one of the most difficult skills that I have been learning through my college career, but it has also been the most important skill because unlike other skills writing affects my works across all courses or subjects. Writing has also helped me to get in to UMD, receive scholarships, and be accepted in research programs. Therefore, all the effort that I have made to improve my writing skill is worth it. From experience, writing is not like other skills that one can learn overnight, for me, writing skill is very slow progress and requires a lot of writing and reading; this is what I got from this class. In this class, my writing has advanced because I am reading more, practicing more, and writing more.…

The way I move through my own writing process is simple. I always start with research on a specific topic that an instructor gives me. I’m that kind of person that loves to highlight the important details of someone else’s information so I can admire her or his work in my papers. Then after finding the right amount of work to compose my own paper I start out with a title page.…

Adequate writing was always a struggle for me because I struggled with coming up with topics to write about. Even when teachers gave us prompts to write about I struggled writing about them mostly because I thought writing was boring. Another reason I was discouraged by writing was I would spend hours at a time trying to come up with ideas for a prompt and would barely come up with any ideas to write about. Being a civil engineering major I see why writing is so important in my career field. My experience with writing has had its good moments and its bad moments.…

Learning to write When I attended elementary school, part of the curriculum was penmanship. There was a certain segment of instruction dedicated to penmanship rather than writing. We were given large sheets of oat colored paper with three parallel lines widely spaced. The alphabets were used to print and write in cursive using the midpoint, and upper lines for capital letters. The handwriting grades were based on neatness and readability.…

You would think a writing class would only teach you how to write papers, but not until college did I realize the complexity of a writing class where other than writing it integrates methods of research, reflection, and reading for instance I never realized the complexity of reading and what to simply look for when reading text. In high school the idea of talking to the text where writing notes on the side while reading normally gave me enough information to get by. Thus never grasping the complexity of the text because the means were unknown. It was not until I was introduced to the rhetorical situation diagram in 1020. Prior to the rhetorical situation diagram we were given an assignment where we were to interpret three different viewpoints central around a single argument about oil.…

The Final Test I passed the final test, but they didn’t. It all started with my class, called the “9ers”. We were the first class to ever have their whole grade graduate on the same day. We were the smartest of them all, is what the counselor told us. All we had to do was pass the final test to figure out who were leaving to go to the new community.…

My experience in writing has been very difficult. I seem to overthink and make it harder than it really is. Before you write something that is intended for a certain audience, you must first research the topic so that you will know what you are talking about and to keep their interest. Just standing in front of an audience is tough. They need to hear you loud and clear so speaking to them by looking into the audience and not down at a paper will carry your voice further.…

With every writer there comes a paper of some sort, whether it is an outstanding paper or an awful paper a writer tends to have some sort of strength and some sort of weakness throughout. With each ability that a writer has, whether it is a strength of organization, order of thesis or a strong introduction or it is a weakness such as catching a comma splice, or being just below the length requirement, resources are available to improve. However, the strength I find to come naturally to me is the organizational part. This specific strength is accomplished because personally I have to have a schedule and layout of…

To be completely honest I have mixed feelings about writing and I don’t really have any memorable experiences that made me feel this way, it is just the experiences that I have had with the subject while trying to apply it. I struggle with what to write down mostly and creativity in general and I don’t really excel at any part of it. If I were to say I “excel” at anything it would be revising my work and adding to it. At the end of the semester I hope that I have relearned some key writing elements that lack of practice has caused me to lose.…

Professional learning is an ongoing process and I am at my best a student eager to learn. Last school year I worked on completing my gifted endorsement and this year I am enrolled in the Teacher Leader endorsement, my mom always tells me that I love learning so much because when I was in her womb she was in her senior year in college, she even tells me I took a couple of classes with her, and would respond in her womb to the professor, so, I guess I’m a natural born learner. As a student I was inducted into several honor societies including Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society in Education, Phi Kappa Phi, International Honor Society, Pi Lambda Theta, International Honor Society for Education, Pi Sigma Alpha, Political Science Honor Society,…

Throughout this semester of English 101, writing has become more of a skill than a struggle. Writing was a challenge that I dreaded when I chose to be in the course, nonetheless with time, I learned from my mistakes and was able to improve. This course made me very doubtful on whether I could be capable of even writing a paper that would provide me with a decent grade, but at the same time made me push myself in my writing technique. In the end, I can reflect that I learned from my mistakes and wrote papers that took time and dedication to accomplish. I learned from this class to be confident in my writing and make all the mistakes to receive the grade I want in the end.…

A Lesson Learned My senior year was a complete disaster. I never took anything serious, and I always waited till the last minute to do everything. All throughout my senior year teachers told me I needed to push myself to achieve a higher grade although my stubborn self never listened. At the beginning of this English course, I was so nervous and scared that I would fail. I do not think I have ever been a good writer. It has always terrified me because I have difficulty putting my thoughts down on paper. This course has proven to be highly inspiring to me as well as frightening. It has really taught me more about the understanding of the writing process and structure, in which helped me to not focus so much on the actual writing parts.…

When writing throughout the year I have learned many things. I believe I have grown as a writer, especially in the maturing of my vocabulary and sentence structure. Looking back on these works of writing, I would have to say my favorite piece was the argumentative research paper. This was a great essay because it was a free range topic and I got to write about my own interests. Also, I got to do an abundance of research on something I enjoy.…
