I had three main goals for this semester: improved tone quality, blowing more air through the trumpet and playing in balance with the rest of the ensemble. I feel as if I have improved upon or met these three goals. For example, with blowing more air, I have changed my posture from last year. When playing, especially with wind ensemble, I have straightened up my back and sat up straight, as opposed to last year when I slouched a bit against the back of my chair and sagged my embouchure as a result. Now with my new posture I can get more air faster since my lungs are not collapsing, and my embouchure has also improved, opening my oral cavity and making my playing sound much better than before.
My tone quality has also improved because of blowing more air and I can make a more resonant and brighter sound than before. With this I can also play with different sounds depending on what music I am playing, adding to the effects of the music. I do not need a bright sound all the time, but I do need to

I would like to maintain a fixed schedule for practicing, work on not straining for notes above the staff (while building endurance) and step up for the rest of the trumpet section. First, I need to find a routine practice schedule, so I am not only practicing when it is convenient. I should find three or four days a week and try to make time in my schedule to practice for however long I need. Often, I find myself practicing at odd times here and there and that is not good for me or my time, so I would like to change that. I also want to work on less strain for high notes. I have gotten better with this, but I want to stop forcing notes and try to play relaxed. This will especially help with marching band season when I may get tired or play after resting for a period. Practicing with the Embouchure Builder book will also help with this and save my lips while building up the endurance we have talked about this

During this summer session of ENGL101A, I have learned multiple ways to express myself through my writing. In fact, before signing up for this class, I did not know the proper way to compose an academic essay for a particular audience, and how to properly cite my sources. Nevertheless, after the short summer session, I am able to define my purpose and audience, analyze critically any piece of information, and write with proper citations and fewer grammatical errors with confidence. Through the short time of 5 weeks, I learned how to focus on my audience as well as how to define the purpose of my papers as academically as possible.…

Learning to write When I attended elementary school, part of the curriculum was penmanship. There was a certain segment of instruction dedicated to penmanship rather than writing. We were given large sheets of oat colored paper with three parallel lines widely spaced. The alphabets were used to print and write in cursive using the midpoint, and upper lines for capital letters. The handwriting grades were based on neatness and readability.…

After finishing the English 101 course I feel like I have accomplished many of the goals that I was challenged with the beginning of the course, such as critically thinking and reading with text from the textbook “Dialogues” by Gary Goshgarian, substantively replying to my peers to understand their point of views from the text and to get a better understanding of a rhetorical argument. Thinking and reading critically were very important this whole course. Thinking and reading critically were something you would have to do in every assignment that was given. Incorporating it in every assignment has helped us greatly improve week by week and betters our understanding of each topic and the assignments main idea.…

If I had to rate my overall performance in the pieces that we played as an ensemble I would have to rate that my overall abilities as a trumpet player have dropped. I would have to say that I have become more relaxed in the sense that I don’t actually try as hard to play the songs that would help me grow as a musician and improve my overall ability. Some of the things I did well this year were play the music rhythmically correct but in playing the correct notes I didn’t do as well as I should have. I think that I need to do more practice in the field of playing the correct notes but in the way of seeing rhythms I am doing actually pretty well. I didn’t enjoy as much the music as I have the music that we have played in the past.…

Everyone hates English class is what I thought before taking English 102. However, that may have been the case before I entered Dr. Byrd’s domain, but after finishing the class I have come to the realization that English class can be greatly resourceful. English 102 this year has had its ups and downs, and I must admit the ups outweigh the downs. Meaning, this year, I have learned that I am not a student who wants to read or write, but through reading and writing my mind and skill sets concerning English have grown. During English 102 this year, reading and writing in class helped me expand my writing skills, improved my will to comprehend, and most importantly helped expand my knowledge.…

Writing is of great importance, and I take the process of learning to do it seriously. Prior to posting my working thesis, I intently studied the module learning resource, as well as the many handouts and videos that our instructor provided. I read the material multiple times, and likely, I spent too much time obsessing over every detail. I am glad that I took the extra time, however, in that somewhere in my hours of reading, I managed to grasp the concept of the thesis and the way in which we were using it for this first narrative essay. The feedback that I received was not only helpful, but I also learned an important lesson in overcoming fear, and adapting to find the right topic.…

When approaching this assignment, my big worry was creating something that I myself found interesting and something that students would find interesting. In my secondary education career, I remember many activities where I myself was disinterested and didn’t have a reason to care and it also seemed like in these cases the teacher also didn’t care, they just wanted to make us quiet for the class period so they could mind their own business or catch up on whatever they were behind on. Because of this, I wanted to create an assignment based on a lesson on symbolism that included not only traditional forms of symbolism in literature/artwork, but also one that included references to pop culture and film. In addition, giving students a choice in what to write about based on what’s personally important to them.…
