I figured it was probably to see my reaction, maybe she looked to see if I approved or accepted the things she discussed with me. I never changed my response, I accepted the behavior and allowed her to continue. These behavior and responses are key to therapy and I realize it was benefit to notice them, once again I wonder when I would express to her that she did these things at certain moments. Or would it be best to keep them in my notes so I could associate a behavior with a comment. This may be far fetch, nonetheless, I believe conducting either art therapy or some sort of expressive therapy will help Abbey express her feelings on another level. During this session I could not help but think she wanted to share more in depth but felt uncomfortable doing so because the information she was disclosing was very personal and she resorted back to laughter to cover those feelings. The reason I think art therapy or some form of expressive therapy would be beneficial is because or 1) her artistic abilities and the comfort she has associated to creating art, 2) it places her thoughts onto a blank canvas so it is an actual concrete visual and lastly I think it will alleviate the stress of figuring out what to say during session and instead, allow herself to express freely. I attempted to incorporate an assessment of free association and it did not resonate properly, she seemed very uncomfortable and rejected the
