Reflective Essay: President's Award Program Scholarship

Decent Essays
President’s Award Program Scholarship has impacted me in a positive way. What I mean by positive. I mean pushing me in getting good grades and getting academic help to do better in my classes being able to understand better what is happening in class and not feeling confused. As well as being social in when attending the Annual PAP Dinner. I really like how the PAP gather all other PAP cohort students and I got the chance to meet other students higher level of classification than me with the same major and had the chance to ask them questions about the classes they already took and how many credits hours did they take each semester to finish there degree on time. I really got good advice in each of the classes and what organizations to join.

When you get this letter 10 years will have passed since I was in your position. I never really considered that I had a racist bone in my body. I mean, most if not all of my friends then were minorities of some sort, and I got along just fine with them. But subconsciously I began to notice that the successes of minorities irritated me because part of me believed I was better than they were. So I began to try to find ways to justify my superiority so that I could avoid the reality that if I didn’t really start cracking down I would lose out to people of color.…

There are several qualities which are essential for a Special Constable at McMaster University. These qualities are integrity, quality, inclusiveness, teamwork, critical thinking, personal growth and a passion for life long learning. In terms of integrity and quality, I have demonstrated these with my steady employment at the Royal Ontario Museum over the last 10 years and my discipline free employment history. Integrity is the cornerstone of building trust with our community, I believe that being willing to learn from others, and being accountable when we make mistakes demonstrates the ability to be accountable for our actions and decisions. Joining the New Visions program was one of the wisest decisions I have made. When nurses that I shadow at Unity Hospital express how jealous they are that they didn’t have a program like this when they were in high school, it reminds me to take advantage of this opportunity that not every student receives. I am confident that when I graduate college, I will be able to recollect this program, and how it led me to be successful. I will reminisce about the long hours dedicated to each college-level assignment in determination to receive a grade in the high 90’s, or that moment when I witnessed a five pound baby be born from a cesarean delivery, or even when I stood next to the operating table observing a total knee replacement surgery, while the surgeon and nurses took the time to teach me about what they were doing--an opportunity that not even college nursing students were able to see. Every assignment I completed, conversation I had, and person I met, has transformed me into a more educated and open minded student.…

As a Gates scholar, one of the main values that I carry is to give back to my community. Therefore, I volunteered as an ambassador in order to spread the word about the scholarship, initially volunteering at my very own high school. In being an ambassador, I found that my position transitioned from being a scholar to becoming a mentor. I was expected to help applicants apply and analyze their scholarships essays which I had never done before. Therefore, having written similar essays myself, I decided to attempt it.…

    • Duke University is described as an “open canvas”. The first step in creating any piece of artwork is to find inspiration. My inspiration stems from the research opportunities offered to English majors and the chance to continue my internship research on creating methods to predict Charcot foot in diabetic patients. The next step is sketching the image, which will come through having the freedom to design my own interdisciplinary curriculum that will combine my passion for both science and English. I will layer this canvas by painting a meaningful experience through advocating for gender equality with the Blue Devils United, servicing the community through the Duke Scouting Association and further pursuing my interests of science and English…

On what seemed like a typical weeknight during my freshman year of high school, my friends and I walked to football practice. The walk to the field was always nerve-wracking because we spent our time wondering what kind of physical exhaustion we would be subjected to during the next few hours. After reaching the field, we carried out our routine stretches. However once the team had finished, our coach made us form a single line. Each person stood facing the back of the person in front of him.…
