Reflection For Training Class

Improved Essays
I wanted to thank you for taking your time to train me for this new position. Your training was very helpful in getting me ready to work the floor. I just wanted to go over what happened in training, inform you of the most helpful parts of training, and items I wish we had covered during training that I noticed once I went out on the calling floor and was working with my mentor to get me ready to succeed at this company.

Recently when I started working for Nelnet, the national education loan network, that services many of the current student loans that have been taken out by students and parents I learned a lot about loans that I didn’t think was possible. I was hired for a default position that requires me to take and make calls to borrowers

One of the biggest issues that I had during this class was that we as a class could not watch, as our teacher would do certain things for training. When Matt would go into Nservice the database and try to show us how to work the system we could not see what he was doing nor did he explain how to perform the tasks very well. I learned a lot during my training period however there were a few things that Matt chose to skip during the class and advised me that they would not be needed when we got on the floor to take calls. This was very harmful because when I went to take calls on my first day one of the many items in Nservice that I was told I would not need, I needed to know how to do on my very first call. When I started this training class and was getting to know Matt he told me that he had been working for the company for more than 10 years now and most of that time has been spent as a trainer. He had not been on the floor taking calls in almost 10 years. I don’t see how he as a trainer would really know how things have changed for servicing loans if he himself had not done it in over a decade. I feel horrible in saying that I did not find that my trainer had any real knowledge of what really went on in the call …show more content…
The training book that was provided to trainees is a great help and should be kept, however it would really help if when using the book the classes trainer might reference back to previously learned information to show how items relate. This would help students to understand how information is related. When it comes down to training from the book it is also very helpful if important notes were made on topics that are of importance. In my case I was not taught that I could not apply back-to-back administrative forbearances nor could I apply them to accounts when they were just recertifying their information. There were little things like this situation that made it hard to do my job because I didn’t know certain rules that should have been explained. Different things like the Mehleasa rules and excessive loan debt terms would have been helpful to know when I started off with my mentor. I will say though the side by side with our mentors and the calls with quality are the most helpful part of the training and I suggest that there should be a lot more of them. There is a gap in the internal communications that needs to be fixed between the training staff and the calling floor through regular meetings and conferences on when procedures

The classroom was a haven for students to discuss practicum issues without feeling afraid to voice opinions and expect positive feedback/encouragements. During group supervision, the instructor gave information that would be useful in any setting and with any populations. She provided information about mental status exams, crisis plans, therapeutic group topics, goal setting, interviewing skills, assessment process, and counseling strategies/techniques. I feel that I learned more about counseling during my group supervision, I used most of the information Dr. Sias provided at PORT…

Today, several college students face a large amount of debt after and even before graduating. About two-thirds of bachelor’s degree recipients borrow money to attend college, either from the government or private lenders, according to a Department of Education survey of 2007-8 graduates. After graduating high school, numerous people make a decision not to attend college due to the amount of debt that will cumulate during college and decide it is not worth being in debt. At the age of 18, you don’t realize how much college is going to cost, you just want to go to the same college as all of your friends. Also, when you go tour a college, they tend to show all of the amenities, for example, the sports complex, swimming pool, and the recreation…

Managing Student Loans Student loans have become an insurmountable problem facing many former, present, and future college students, graduates, and their parents in the United States of America. With student loans accumulating at surprising rate, it is important to find a solution to assist these students and their parents. While reducing student loans may be challenging to execute, this objective can be realized with hard work and commitment. The solution to student loans should be handled by multiple parties. The Department of Education, Department of Labor, and the Texas Workforce Commission must educate the American students and their parents about the consequences of obtaining student loans, hold the student loan companies responsible…

This was the first opportunity I had to work with people with different disabilities. First, I was very nervous and did not know what to expect. On the one hand, I was excited that I was going to put all that I had learned in class into practice, on the other hand, I was a little anxious about how I was going to perform and communicate with them. My one-week practicum, which lasted from October 23rd-29th 2016, was at group home of…

In today’s American society, the average college graduate leaves college with a whopping $37,172 in student loan debt. Crippled by constant payments, many struggle to keep up with payment plans. On top of that, federal student loans encompass an interest rate, which has a limit of 8%. Because the interest rates are so high, graduates can end up paying double the original loan amount. Coming from a large family, I have had first hand experience with the effects of student loans, and what it can do to a blossoming individual looking to start a new life.…

The lessons the workshop taught the children that went through it was invaluable. We hope that we as adults show our children learn from us the mistakes of the past and treat people equally. A lot of times unfortunately people have stigmata’s either put on them by society because of how they look or they put them on themselves and people treat them differently. The lessons that this workshop teaches are lessons that everyone should have. You can spend our entire life trying to instill the values in your children that this class does in two days, and I want my children to be kind to people as we all do; I do not want them to ALIENATE someone because they are not the same as them, different ETHNITICIY or part of a MINORITY GROUP.…

Never assume that you will not be good at something when you did not give yourself the time to put your brain to work. A statement that I heard multiple times but that make sense, once again, with this class. I walked in with uncertain and thin writing abilities, and the fear not to be able to align five, different and acceptable essays. However, because of my openness to what would be offered, I acquired and sharpened a great deal of skills. Among which the ability to invent, deliver and edit a text, with the purpose to narrate, criticize or simply analyze, in conformity to the rules of Standard Edited American English.…

When I delivered the teaching session, the experience was an overall success with students showing a clear interest and engaging in the lesson (Table 1, question 10, mean 4.3). The teaching began with a clear introduction to the key learning points for the whole session (Table 1, question 5, mean 4.3), which allowed the students to understand what the session was going to entail. This was beneficial to those who needed to see the big picture to see how topics fit together[1]. I further explained that the session will be split into three sections and explained that certain learning outcomes will be covered in each section. Student feedback stated that there was “enthusiastic teaching in appropriate sized teaching bites.”…

My approach to reading has changed over the semester. Before this class, I would just read without taking notes. In reading, I would just read instead of looking up the difficult word or using context clues to figure out what the word means. Now during my reading I annotate and look up unknown vocabulary words. When I look up the difficult word, I would find the closest appropriate definition.…

The concepts delivered throughout the management problem-solving course have provided me with valuable simulated real-life experiences which can be applied in my everyday work life as a HR Administrator with aspirations of progressing my career. The course delivery was such that as a student, I was able to use my existing knowledge and skills, in addition to that of my peers, to analyse and explore complex organisational problems. This course has challenged the way I think and deepened my understanding of the problem-solving process, which has enabled me to perceive issues from new perspectives, I once would not have considered. Additionally, it has also allowed me to make explicit and authentic connections between the course content and my…

Introduction The time I spent with my student during our tutoring sessions gave me a first-hand experience of how it is like on a student to teacher level. I learned a lot from my student, Kade, as I hope he also learned from me. During this time, I was able to observe his strengths and his weakness. I had to be flexible to cater my lesson plan to my student, so he could build upon what he learned and advance through more challenging activities.…

Another perspective I gained from this is that I should always try to use layman terms to explain something complicated so as to make it easier for junior staff to understand. For example, to demonstrate a complicated method of troubleshooting component, I can use a self-drawn circuit diagram that is broken down and easier to understand. The ability to rephrasing a complex solution in a simple manner requires deep understanding of the problem and solution. This requires critical and creative thinking. In the future, I will constantly incorporate this skill in my future lesson plans of my training…
