What Is The Moral Of The Book Of Job

I want to talk to you for a minute about the story of Job. The story of Job comes from this book called “The Bible”. I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of it, but it’s actually a pretty good book. It’s a captivating read. There’s wars and magic and dragons. This guy dies, except then you find out that he didn’t die. I don’t want to spoil the ending for you, but you should definitely check it out.

Anyway, in the Book of Job there is line that reads: “In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls upon men when slumbering in their beds, then he opens the ears of men and seals their instructions.”

Now that one piece of religious text, ironically, takes us into some sciency stuff. And you know that I know what I’m talking about

And for that reason, it is of paramount importance that you try to limit the amount of negative thoughts that you expose your subconscious mind to throughout your day; and especially in the final five minutes of your day. A lot of people don’t realize how crucial those final five minutes are when it comes to how you’ll feel when you wake up the following morning. For most people, those final five minutes of the day - those moments when they’re lying in bed waiting for, as it says in the Book of Job, deep sleep to fall upon them - those final five minutes are their worry time. And you’ve probably experienced this too. You’re lying in bed with only your thoughts to entertain yourself, and you allow them to drift towards the negative things that are going on in your life. You start to worry about bills, you start to worry about work, about friends, about your parents. You worry about the passing of time, you worry about never becoming a father, or maybe you worry about becoming a father. You fill your mind with all these terrible, horrible, cynical, unpleasant thoughts, and then you just shut it off for the night. And after you shut your mind off for the night, all of the thoughts which were floating around in it are absorbed into your subconscious mind and that’s what your subconscious mind has to work with for the next eight or so hours. So it’s no surprise, then, when you wake up the next …show more content…
And “fall” is the right word, because when you allow your mind to focus on nothing but paying your bills - or not paying them - you start to feel like you’re hurdling through this black hole and you’re just falling and falling and falling and it never comes to an end because negative thoughts produce negative thoughts. So when you find yourself engulfed by the fear of not being able to make ends meet, you need to remind yourself that you might be cash poor but that there are other kinds of currency and you have those kinds of currency in abundance. I know that kind of sounds cheesy and corny and whatever, but it’s

Having formally sketched the ultimate and proximate settings in which human life is organized in 4A and 5A, in chapter 6, “To Be and Have a Living Body: Meditation on Job 10,” David Kelsey begins to address what human beings are. Kelsey argues that Job’s story of his own “having been born” (Job 10) narrates an account of his birth in two entwined, but distinct ways. These two ways of telling the story of his birth “also tell the story of the birth of every human person” (242). Job’s particular and subtle double-telling of his birth provides resources for a general articulation of two lines of human creatureliness. The source of Kelsey’s constructive claims are situated in Job’s “contest about wisdom” (241-245).…

Therefore, while Job does not completely understand his punishment, unlike his friends, he trusts that the Lord knows that he is innocent. Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar are limited to inside-the-box thinking, assuming that if one is suffering, he must be wicked, however, Job recognizes that the Lord “looks to the ends of the earth And sees everything under the heavens” (Job 28:24), and thus knows that Job is righteous. Therefore, according to the cosmic view, while Job is essentially operating inside the box by living in the world, in regards to his punishment and the Lord’s dealings with him, he senses that something is happening outside the box, in the Heavenly realm. Job is correct, for while he does not know of Satan’s goal or test with the Lord, he understands that there must be a reason for what God is doing to him, since He…
