Psychology: A Short Note On Self Assessments

In taking the self-assessment again, I was taken back at how my scores dropped on four of the categories. The accept self-responsibility dropped by 10 points, employ interdependence dropped 2 points and gain self-awareness dropped 7 points. Adopt lifelong learning dropped by 2 points. The categories that my score went up, they only increased by one point, except for believe in themselves was the only category that it went up 4 points. Dropping a total of 21 points and only gaining a total of 6 points doesn’t seem that is a good payoff. As I wrote the following in Journal 9, gives on the how and what that I am able to figure out. Not that it is right or makes sense.
Discover self-motivation: I would say that with all the homework that was required of me, I had to find time to accomplish this. Not that it was a good exchange in doing this; I had to slack on my house cleaning and yard care, which is not a very good feeling. I am not able to be as attentive to my Mom who is 85. Convincing myself that it is okay, would be okay and not feel selfish.

Believe in myself: That I was making the right choices in order to succeed with what is required of me in school. Even though I am neglecting my house and my Mom; it is for the greater good.
I was disappointed that my score went down so low on accept self-responsibility. It may play on the fact that with what I had to sacrifice above does not sit with me comfortably. This might be why my scores fell in areas that I had higher scores the first time. It is interesting to see that my master self-management stayed the same. I would take this as I was good with self -management prior to school and still am, indicating that I had to give up the 2 above tasks in order to manage school. All of my scores that went down or were low to start with I would like to improve

This was the past, the failure, that I did not want to recall; it is, however, the one that I learned from the most. This is what my colleagues bragged about as they carried on with A’s on their tests; this is what I tried convincing myself of. I remained under the assumption that my grade carried the most value the same way others did.…

There are lots of reasons that anecdotal evaluations are better than report cards. The first reason is that it encourages students that the work they are doing is being recognized and appreciated. Some students might get depressed or discouraged about their grades, others might get discouraged that their friends did better or insecure because their parents are pressuring them, if they don't feel they are being recognized they might shut down and stop trying. “I remember the first time that a grading rubric was attached to a piece of my writing….Suddenly all the joy was taken away. When I try even though I think I will fail, and end up succeeding, it is a pleasant surprise that inspires me to keep trying. For example, I would often tell myself that I was horrible at math in high school. Based on my past low scores, I assumed my math skills were “fixed” and could not improve.…
