School Violence Argumentative Essay

When I used to think of the word school, I thought of this giant building where children are to learn and enrich their minds each day with something new. I thought of the same routine every single day and how I would walk to each class without even thinking about it; my feet just knew where to go. I walked by the same people every day, nothing much out of the ordinary. School is supposed to be one of the safest places around, or so they say. I think to myself quite often about if school really is a safe place. It seems like every year as school goes on, tensions start to rise with one another and things start to get heated. (generalized example) The suspect, Nikolas Cruz, a recent student, violently attacked the school Wednesday afternoon, killing 17 people and injuring at least 14 others. (US School Violence Fast Facts, CNN.com, 2018) This shooting was way different than the others. I remember hearing this and at first I thought “Oh, great, another shooting.” This time, students took videos of the event happening. Watching the videos of blood next to victims being shot, seeing the students run in fear to escape from the building, made all the numbness my body had escape. I started to hyperventilate and become terrified. These things DO happen on any other school day. (personal experience) Every one of my friends has been talking about how scared they are to even walk into school some days now. Every slight thing that happens at school now I always think of it being something bad. The fact that I live in fear at the place that is supposed the be the safest is awful. I know I am not the only one who has now just realized how bad things have been having to do with school violence throughout the years. I know it is really hard to stop it, but maybe there can be ways to make it preventable and
