Reflection Paper: Peace Corps Life

Peace Corps Life is definitely not easy, although many people see volunteers pictures of beautiful beach sunsets, views, scenery, and think that our life is more of a whimsical vacation than anything else, those are often fleeting moments of happiness that we cling too during the vast amounts of difficult cultural and language situations being navigated everyday. I have spent the first few months just finding my footing; where I belong in the organization, how I fit in, and sitting in on meetings and conversations where I do not more times than I can count. This however, is all part of the process, "trust the process" I can hear Peace Corps Staff repeating in the back of my head as I write this.. Ah! Yes, trust in the process of community …show more content…
Tuesday morning, I stopped at a canteen near one of the Universities to grab some take out for lunch. The woman working at the eatery, was really nice in telling me what each of the foods were and what sauce was on it as I painstakingly made my decision. When I chose what I wanted she began packaging it up, and asked me if I studied here. I replied that I was a volunteer here. She asked me where I was from, and I replied the US. I told her how I was here in Baguio and volunteered in Kibungan as well. She got really excited and said, That's where I am from! My Uncle is the mayor. I said oh my gosh I just met him last week! I was in Palina. I stayed for a while as we discussed how beautiful it was but how far it was to travel. When she finished packaging up my food to go she handed me the bag, and as I tried to give her my payment, she said you no longer need to pay me for this, you are volunteering to help better my country and my community. Thank you and God Bless.

It it easy to say that my heart has become warm and full after this weeks events. May I continue to "trust in the process" and wherever it takes me throughout this

Firstly, for youngsters experiencing childhood in an organized, halfway house sort setting, it is absolutely critical that kids have the capacity to build up a steady, long haul connection to their parental figures. Permitting troops of voyagers to come in and embrace, play and giggle with the children at regular intervals has unequivocally the inverse impact. Pretty much as it was helpful for you as a kid to grow long haul, stable bonds with the general population who nurtured you, so it is essential for those youngsters. To participate in halfway house volunteering is to partake in a cycle of making and forsaking connections that helps no one candidly with the exception of…

Have you ever heard of a tap tap? Three summers ago, I discovered a tap tap not just a nickname for banging a pencil on a deck, but a kind of taxi in Haiti. The trip was a very eye opening experience where I learned that I have many things to be thankful for.…

The objective of the volunteering work that was assigned was to students this semester, was for us to teach others--mostly the elderly-- how to become more familiarized with the use of different forms of technology. We were to show them how to empower themselves (and live more easily) through the use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. We were to show them how to save important documents and go paper-free, show them how to use their cellular devices, and so much more. Delving into the process of volunteering, I expected to meet these older people at a loss as to how to the concept of how to use certain features of their devices, or how, say, the internet worked. I thought that perhaps I would even encounter a couple of rude, insufferable, older-but-not-elderly people, as well.…
