Well, this is a hard decision to make I have had both best and a worst parent/teacher conference with both of my now adult children. However, I think I will discuss the worst, because I hope it NEVER happens to any of you as parents or if you are going into the teaching profession.
First, let me explain what happened and then I will discuss our readings and some other research regarding the matter. I had a scheduled conference with my son’s teachers and a counselor one morning when he was in the 7th grade. My son was and still is an extremely intelligent and gifted person, but he was getting bored with his classes. His grades were great, but his attitude and attention were not as good as they should have been. …show more content…
I had placed my trust into this woman and she broke that trust. The law in Texas makes this a misdemeanor but she had that on a record now and she lost her teaching position and so did the school counselor. We have every right and a responsibility to protect our children. We want to keep them safe. We want them to grow up know the consequences of doing right from wrong. We want our children to be successful in the future.
What this original teacher did is in our readings this week on the article, “Communication is Key: Tips for Successful Parent Conferences” by Susan A. Miller.
In the heading, under Record Keeping according to Miller (2008), it clearly states, “In order to keep communication open and be respectful during the conference, the teacher may wait to take notes until the conference is over. It is important not to record confidential information that should not be shared with others.” The teacher did not put the information in the records, but she had written it down on a notepad, which should not have been done because of the confidentiality of the matter that we spoke and she later told this to a counselor during a discussion that they had outside of school
