Description
On Friday the 25th of August I was placed with a paramedic crew for an emergency ambulance service placement. We responded to a job in which a middle aged man had fallen off a roof. The paramedic I was with quickly assessed the scene and said that she would take control as the patient might have serious injuries. I was given the task of taking a number of vital signs and preparing the drug kit so the intensive care paramedic had everything she needed. The job went very smoothly and the patient was transferred to hospital.
Reflection
I was very satisfied with how this job progressed. The way the team worked together was very fluid. This resulted tasks being completed promptly and efficiently. At the time of this placement I believed that I lacked the knowledge to handle the situation on my own. This led to me being content with following the paramedic’s instructions. I worked to the best of my abilities because the paramedic was calm and had set out a clear assessment and treatment plan. The paramedic’s composure during the situation created confidence in me and also reassured the bystanders that the situation was under control. Throughout my time on placement she had proved herself to be a very competent paramedic. Therefore I had confidence that the plan that was put in place would provide the best outcome for the patient. Another factor in the positive outcome of the job was the skills that I had learned in the classroom. The paramedic gave me tasks that aligned with my skillset. I was able to complete the tasks assigned to me and prepare equipment that was to be used later. While this job went well I believe it would had gone better if I had a larger
