Many of my hours were a result of me connecting and giving back to my community by taking senior portraits for free. I took around nine individual’s senior photos, which was a blast each time getting to photograph all types of different beauties in these people. Not only was I happy to photograph my wonderful peers, I was very happy to do them exempt of charge, knowing that normally photographers for senior portraits are very spendy, thus causing many to not want to get them done. In doing them for free, people who would have normally skipped the ordeal and settled for the school-taken photo in the yearbook due to prices, I was able to provide them with portraits that boosted their self esteems, and made them glad that they went through the sometimes uncomfortable process of taking photos. There were many challenges for this part of my project however, mostly due to time related issues. I had to learn to manage and adapt my little free time to find times that would work for both me and the person I was taking photos of, which was sometimes very difficult to align two people’s very busy lives. Another challenge I faced was more personal; being a portrait photographer while having social anxiety is a bit of an intimidating experience.
