Reflective Essay On My Personal Experience

My personal experience and take away from English 111 was what I expected it would be before I started the course. No, there was no “life changing” moment for me from this course and I honestly I can’t say I am a better or worse citizen for taking this class, but I can say my writing skills have improved, and that I feel more confident in my writing than prior to taking this course. Writing has and continues to be a challenge for me, I have no illusion that I will ever be a “perfect” or even a “good” writer for that matter, but because some of things I learned in how to prepare and to write an essay I feel I’m a much improved writer. On the first draft to my research paper, the War on Drugs, I thought I presented a much stronger argument to my opinion because I used personal reflections writing about my experiences in fighting the War on Drugs. I understand now that the standard for a proper academic argumentative essay should not have the tone of personal reflection. I did rewrite my essay and removed my personal experiences of the things that have done, and witnessed over the last twenty years in my participation in the War on Drugs, and presented the same argument using the information I obtained in my research. I thought the information in the articles I used was valuable information to support my argument, but I have a bias and still feel my personal experience, especially on this issue of legalization of illicit drugs is much more convincing than information I obtained from articles. I’m sure there is a way to incorporate personal experiences in an academic argumentative essay but the frustrating part for me or the “low-point” was I couldn’t figure that
