The Literacy Narrative was sort of a trial and error project. I wrote the essay the best way I knew how and hoped for the best grade. I did though get to tackle a more creative aspect of my writing that needed much working on. Since this essay was based on our own experiences, it allowed me to be as creative as I would like rather than being confined to the requirements that something like a research paper would have. Despite this, I still realized that my Literacy Narrative was not my strongest paper.…

Sometimes different situations in life make you feel depressed, tired and slowly lose the will to move forward. The author, in the poem takes it a little further that it should, in my opinion. The use of word in this poem is really good because the poet shows clearly the pessimism and negativism throughout the text. Close reading this poem helped a lot in showing different aspects and views of it. I didn’t really understand anything about poem structure and form.…

The struggle is that people do not know whether to turn to their heart or to use their head. To me, this poem was about the steps taken after a break up. When these types of things happen out of where, people usually do not know where to begin to handle it. Some people think should turn to crying about all of the negatives, or if they should rather think about the positives that came from the relationship and from the break up.…

To be completely honest I have mixed feelings about writing and I don’t really have any memorable experiences that made me feel this way, it is just the experiences that I have had with the subject while trying to apply it. I struggle with what to write down mostly and creativity in general and I don’t really excel at any part of it. If I were to say I “excel” at anything it would be revising my work and adding to it. At the end of the semester I hope that I have relearned some key writing elements that lack of practice has caused me to lose.…

According to Janesick (2011) journaling is a common practice among many professionals in differing fields, in addition to those writing in journals for leisure. The practice of writing in a journal could contribute to a number of attributes of a writer; specifically deepening ones self awareness. Hence, sharpening of ones own reflection, writing, thinking, and ability to communicate (Janesick, 2011, p. 154). I never thought of journal writing as a tool for research or scholarly writing, but when it comes to qualitative research, I can see how it could be beneficial. Qualitative research is largely based on the thoughts, perceptions, and beliefs of the subject under study; so in essence, when one is journal writing they are both the researcher and the one under study (Janesick, 2011).…

When I moved to the United States, I was only sixteen years old, and beginning my junior year in high school. I come from Dominican Republic, where the native language is Spanish. In my country most of the young citizens learn the basic of speaking, and writing in English. I was born in Somalia, but I was raised in a small village called Mander in Kenya. When I grew up and started going to school, I learned three languages. The first one was my Native Language which is Somali, the second one was Kiswahili which was used as the national language in Kenya, and my third language was English. In schools in Kenya, the community was not paying more attention to the English language so much as they do to Kiswahili language because they wanted to stick with their language. Everyone who lives in Kenya knows Kiswahili whether they go to school or not.…
