I previously thought of successful educators as the ones who were at a campus for years, even decades. Someone that moved around quite a bit must be doing something wrong. In the article, Fulginiti depicts her superintendent’s need to move her around because of her ability to discover the problems on a campus and implement change. Ethnography is an extremely important skill that educational leaders need to possess. Educational leaders are expected to figure out how to revolutionize a budget, kick start teacher moral, improve parent involvement, and increase test scores. This cannot be done without extensive research into the causes of the problem and effective strategies to solve the problem. Leaders that walk onto a campus and start implementing changes without regard to the cause of the problem may see short term results, but it will not be sustaining and will cause more problems in the end. Also, it is not enough to adopt new procedures that are being done by other schools, districts, or states without assessing the needs of the school. Her hard work and dedication affirmed in me that I did not want to become a teacher. From my perspective, teachers worked too hard for very little. After I graduated college with my Business degree, my grandmother inspired me to try teaching after watching me tutor a student in math. I decided to give it a try and just completed my sixth year of teaching. During my teaching career, I became the head of the mathematics department, was a member of our Strategic Planning Committee, and headed the technology portion of the annual school fundraiser. I always stated that I was happy being a teacher and I would never move to administration. Recently, I was awarded the position of Dean of Student Affairs and have begun the transition to a member of the Administration. I want to learn, grow, and progress further in my career. I do not have an ultimate career goal with regards to the field of education because every time I proclaim that I don’t want to do something, my life seems to head in that
