Reflective Essay On My Direct Supervisor

I would love to build trust with my direct supervisor, Debra Mack. My institution has two campuses and although she is my direct supervisor, she works at the New York campus. Since she is at a distance, it is difficult for her to recognize my strengths and weaknesses. It is also difficult for her to relinquish control and allow me to do complete or handle different projects. It becomes frustrating because we are often delayed on our campus waiting for her assistance. We could increase productivity if she would just trust me to handle certain things on my own. I am confident in my ability to excel at my job. I wish she shared those same sentiments. I would like to create transparency with my supervisor in order to establish trust. Clarify expectations is based on the principles of clarity, responsibility, and accountability (Covey, 2010, p. 193). It is important that these things are clearly defined so there will be little room for error and assumption. The duties of my position was never clearly defined as I was trained by a colleague since my supervisor is in a different state and he was trained by a colleague as well. I need to get a clear understanding of my position and my areas for growth and proceed accordingly.
This assignment has become more than an assignment, it has become a plan of action that I plan to implement in the near future. When the time is right and the office slows down, I will address my supervisor to review the duties of my position. Covey suggests that the next time I have a project a work, I should create a clear project agreement in advance (Covey, 2010, p. 198). This is a great suggestion because the guidelines of one project may differ from that of another so it may be beneficial to come to a clear agreement beforehand each
