Reflective Essay On Mqp

I have nearly spent my whole life here at mqp and have gotten to know many people. I have walked the halls of mqp for 9 years now with the same exact people. I've been is some great classes and have had some great teachers. In kindergarten I remembered mrs. cordias corner, is fifth grade switching classes, in sixth grade sixth grade camp and many more radical experiences. During my years at mqp, my faith has grown tremendously: especially in these last couple years. In 6th grade I remember going on a field trip to st, Patrick's center. We learned about their program, about panhandlers, and recovering drug atics. I remember vividly talking about pregnant crack addicts, and how there babys would be addicted to it when they grew up. In 7th grade i remember going on a field trip where we got Ipods, and 4 or 5 different children. We walked …show more content…
Me and some other class mates got assigned to webster-rockhill ministries. There we help prepare for their upcoming open house. We helped organize all the donated clothes, sort the many diffrent can goods, and clean the place up. The people that worked at this non-profit really showed me that faith took a big part in these individuals lives. Many of the volunteers have been working there for the whole time the organization has been open. MQP has also taught me about work ethic, and how nothing is going to be just given to me, you have got to want it. This applies to our grades and athletics. MQP has taught me that if you genuinely try hard to get good grades they will come ONLY if you put in the hours for them. Our incredible teachers have given me many opportunities to help me and my classmates if we were struggling in any subject. From mrs. cordia teaching us shapes, and the alphabet, all the way to mrs ciolek teaching us about genetics and physics. Each one of my teachers ever since kindergarten all helped me to reach my full

My first memory at North Carolina Governor’s School West is of crying next to my parents on a bench under a giant tree. It was move-in day for the five-and-a-half-week session, and I was already sure that they would be the worst weeks of my life. I was terrified; I knew no one except two students from my high school, who were rising juniors and to whom I had never spoken before. After that stressful first day, I fell asleep unsure of how I could make it on my own in a place filled with such talented, intelligent, and unfamiliar people. A week later, I knew that Governor’s School would be one of the most treasured experiences of my entire life.…

For my sixty hours of volunteer work I decided to volunteer at a Child Life Center which was in a poverty stricken area in Norfolk, Va. At the child life center my job as a volunteer was to assist the children with their homework, help the staff monitor the children on local field trips, as well as serve as a positive role model for the children. The experience I had at Park Place Child Life Center was one I will honestly never forget. Although I didn’t get any actual counseling experience, I was able to learn the ways that the non-profit organization received their funding, I was able to gain experience in working with the youth, and I was also able to make a positive impact on the lives of children who were considered “at-risk youth”. To go there every day and be able to see the change the children had in their behaviors and how much just some attention and affection from adults impacted their behaviors was honestly amazing.…

Joining the New Visions program was one of the wisest decisions I have made. When nurses that I shadow at Unity Hospital express how jealous they are that they didn’t have a program like this when they were in high school, it reminds me to take advantage of this opportunity that not every student receives. I am confident that when I graduate college, I will be able to recollect this program, and how it led me to be successful. I will reminisce about the long hours dedicated to each college-level assignment in determination to receive a grade in the high 90’s, or that moment when I witnessed a five pound baby be born from a cesarean delivery, or even when I stood next to the operating table observing a total knee replacement surgery, while the surgeon and nurses took the time to teach me about what they were doing--an opportunity that not even college nursing students were able to see. Every assignment I completed, conversation I had, and person I met, has transformed me into a more educated and open minded student.…

After I saw what a difference I could make by just simply helping my community through the school, I decided to do some community service on my own. Following my trade area I went on to volunteer at Lawrence General Hospital. I’ve also had the chance to see the unfairness of the world impacting those in my community when I volunteered at two Center for Human Development (CHD) programs. I have helped out at the Grace House, a program for mothers who are in recovery from addiction, and their children. In order to raise money for prom this year, I accompanied the class of 2019, for 5.5 hours, to a west point game and worked in concessions. I had a great experience working with my peers to achieve a goal that would benefit the senior class. Recently I have engaged in service with my church, for 4 hours, helping to move furniture while they were switching locations. From this experience I learned that sacrificing my time for a communal effort may seem minuscule, but ultimately helps increase efficiency. Also I volunteered at the annual Easter egg hunt at memorial park last weekend for 3.5 hours.…
