Essay On Mistaken Identity

We all have a calling and a purpose in life, and mine became evident to me when I read the book, Mistaken Identity. This book is about a girl who was involved in a serious car accident and suffered serious injuries, including head trauma. Part of the book focused on the demanding therapy she underwent, to be able to carry out tasks we all take for granted, such as simply writing her name with the occupational therapist. This part of the book inspired my interest and I felt this overpowering sensation that occupational therapy was my calling. This feeling and clarification had never happened and made things quite clear to me. I struggled academically at the beginning of my college career, but many professors have helped me work towards where I need to be. I pushed myself to take on several part time jobs and volunteer opportunities along with being a full time student. I think my education, observation and work experiences have helped prepare me and what I need to do to become a successful therapist. I feel like I have improved and gained many skills through these opportunities. I am a compassionate and ambitious person as well as having a strong desire to help others. I feel I have a creative way of analytic thinking when it comes to problem solving and solutions, and have a high sense of determination. The opportunities I have been given, have taught me how to work in diverse circumstances and how to work well with others. The experiences have also shown me how easy it is to make close bonds with those I help care for. I think I would bring a lot to this program and make an exceptional OT, especially working with the special needs
