Reflection Of My Literacy Narrative

Improved Essays
The Literacy Narrative was sort of a trial and error project. I wrote the essay the best way I knew how and hoped for the best grade. I did though get to tackle a more creative aspect of my writing that needed much working on. Since this essay was based on our own experiences, it allowed me to be as creative as I would like rather than being confined to the requirements that something like a research paper would have. Despite this, I still realized that my Literacy Narrative was not my strongest paper. I left out explanations that would have concluded a point I made, thus leaving my reader lost. For example, I did not correctly conclude my ending thoughts in this paper. When stating “I was completely disappointed that I failed my first exam, …show more content…
It too allowed me to be very creative with my writing. I very much enjoyed writing that assignment. I thought outside of the box with the way I structured and organized my Open Letter. I had decided to go with a different approach since I had such a common topic, which was Black Lives Matter. At first I was very reluctant to write on this topic. Even though I am passionate about this topic, I did not want to sound like the mad black girl that people tend to not take seriously. After considering how long I could discuss this topic and not being able to think of something else, I decided to do it. Even though I have strong feeling about this topic, I have never spoken on it. This assignment helped me to release the small amount of anger I was holding in regarding my feelings about this topic. I started with “Dear Murder,” thus making the reader think what could I possibly be talking about to have started off my letter in that way. Therefore making them want to continue to read to figure out my reasoning. I also tried to describe and allude to the recipient of my letter without explicitly saying it until the very end. I personally think it is my strongest piece in this portfolio, because of it’s creative approach to that

Little did I know that was not the case. After receiving my grade and feedback I realized my sentences were choppy and not well put together. When I submitted my paper the second time not only did I receive a better grade but also a better understanding of what my papers should look like and what the content should include. I really enjoyed writing this paper, because it allowed me to write about something I have a passion for. I really enjoy writing narratives, but I believe the easiest and best paper I wrote in this class would be essay two.…

I love to write about what I know well and what I care about. Writing about a story that happened in my life was easy and fun. Well, at least I thought it would be. I found it to be kind of challenging because I had to take a memory I had in my head and put it down on paper. I learned that not everything you think sounds good on paper.…

So writing and editing the essay I chose showed me that there is plenty of room to improve. My original plan was simple and just make small changes, but as I read my work I grew disappointed in myself. I knew that a lot of my mistakes where things that I looked over because I was distracted. Although I know my weakness when it comes to writing I try to stay optimistic with my work. I know if I keep writing I can improve and be more detailed when it comes to checking for…

It wasn 't because I wanted to know what they thought of my work but more because I wanted me to think of my work not just confined to myself by out there for everyone to know it 's okay to express yourself. Also I find narrative essay difficult because you have to come to terms with your situations that have been pressed below but I think that makes it more rewarding with you finally reach the surface. Since I have only written one narrative essay this semester I think that would best reflect my writing as of right now. The searching was my favorite part of the writing process by the hassle would be the conclusion because there was a constant debate in my head of what it could be but…

Before I would not have a process on how to write an essay I would just do it and turn it in thinking it was great how it is but in writing an essay it is never finalize as I learned from Dr. Moreno because there is so much more that can be done. As a result, my writing has improved so much since part A because I learned to have a process for writing such as others editing my work and brainstorming. My writing still needs work because I still have trouble with academic vocabulary that I will expand on soon. In the future for my writing I would love to see it better than it is now because it is the one thing that is going to be used for the rest of my life. Overall, this class taught me so much such as research, conducting data, and blogs.…

It is very difficult for me to write analytically, due to only writing persuasively in high school, and this paper forced me to write in a new way. Although it was unusual and difficult to write that way, I tried my best to meet the requirements and did as much with the prompt as I could. The assignment that I am most proud of is the second writing project. The first essay was difficult because I wasn’t particularly interested in the topic; but the second essay really piqued my interest. As I stated previously, I write my best work when I am really fascinated in the topic and care deeply for the funding of Planned Parenthood.…

The only part that seems less helpful to me would be what I usually skip: thinking more about my thesis. For example, in my argument essay, my thesis was “our love of detective fiction is largely scientific: it is influenced the most by our brains”. If I had thought longer about that thesis, I would have realized that it was too broad and that the brain influences a lot of things. My first essay was a report that described the psychological side of why we like detective fiction. I feel like I did a good job of integrating my research into this essay and I kept it well organized, but my biggest weakness was my grammar and punctuation.…

In spite of the fact that it worked out really well when I was stagnating my development as a writer and I knew I might have been. The main thing more awful than not doing something, is not doing something and realizing that you didn 't do it. I needed to completely apply the idea regardless of what the outcomes were. In the event that I didn 't then I would never develop as a writer. Along these lines alternate essays came and I very neglected to sort out the essay the way I said I would.…

In this self-reflection of my experience, I am going to be very candid in my feelings and experience about this professional writing class. I feel like this class was not up to my expectations and I did not learn anything that will make me a better writer. Yea, a few concepts became clearer, but I did not learn anything that will make a significant difference in my writing style. I was kind of let down, because I expected to learn a lot about the art of writing and more ways to express my thought in a clearer matter. I cannot fault this class for my lack of writing ability- it is on me to improve my writing skills.…

Most importantly, this course has given a lot of confidence in my writing process. I learned how helpful, for me, it can be to begin your writing with a thesis. Specifically, starting with a thesis gives me room to bend, yet stay on track with my essays. Staying focused on the essays topic has been a bit of a weakness for me. Although, by using a thesis, as a start up tool it has come to be extremely helpful.…
