Reflective Essay On Guns For Teachers

Decent Essays
I liked this one because I understand where the author is coming from. Especially during this day and age guns and gun violence is a very hard topic for people to talk about because it is so controversial. I can say I am walking the line on this topic so many school shootings have happened. To protect the students from harm I think it is a good idea. On the part where I feel it is a bad idea is that what if students feel the need to also bring guns for protection? Think that if the school is allowing the teachers why not the students. Its a crazy time we live in with harsh realities. I feel that this was a great story to read. (Guns for Teachers Warren J. Bowe 68).

27th February 2018 Miami Herald 3511 NW 91 Ave Doral, Florida, US. 33172 Dear Editor, Yesterday, you reported on the tragedy that occurred in Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School, where seventeen innocent people had lost their lives. This is ridiculous as the United States Legislative Body doesn’t seem to be affected and not being able to resolve this problem. The Legislative Body’s solution is to increase school security by having experienced teachers possess guns during school hours to defend students and themselves. This solution is perceiving as teachers may use the guns to protect themselves but not the students.…

Although on a rare occasion there may be an iniquitous teacher, the vast majority are benevolent people who are willing to save lives. In various deadly situations of the past, teachers have saved lives by the means of a gun. Because a gun was easily accessible, a Missouri teacher stopped a shooter who “killed two students and wounded seven others at a high school” (Malcolm, 2016, p. 6). However, due to current gun-free zones, the likelihood that a teacher has access to a gun is very slim. By providing every teacher with a gun, more situations like that of Missouri would occur, rather than more situations like the Connecticut shooting at…

Many teachers and administrators are unsure about how pupils may handle altercations and stressors of everyday campus life with the easy access of guns and worry that talking to students about their schoolwork and grades can cause retaliation. Dear Lamar Times Editor, April 13, 2018 We are students at Purvis Middle School and we would like to talk about an argument that we feel strongly about, which is the topic of arming teachers. Recently people have been talking about arming teachers. People say that this will lead to less school shootings and it might, but there's more to this than people realize and it will be a lot harder said than done. Have you ever thought of the teachers position? How would the teachers feel?…

This week, there has been a lot of talk about gun control, armed security at schools, the ability for teachers and students to carry concealed weapons in order to protect America’s students, and plenty of passionate arguments from both sides. We’re certainly no strangers to the debate. Just a week before the shooting at UCC, I published an article highlighting one Utah teacher’s motivation to carry after Sandy Hook and her determination to do whatever it takes to keep herself and her students…

What I think... Teachers should not have guns because what if a kid got caught in a crossfire of the guns. Another reason that teachers should not carry guns is like at a high school kids if they got left in a room Unattended and the teacher the the gun in the desk and the kid knew it and the kid got ahold of the gun. Then that would end in disaster. Another reason that teachers should not have guns is that what if a student had been constantly annoying and being disrespectful and the teacher finally just snapped and shot the kid, that would send the teacher to jail and the kid either to heaven or to the hospital. Another reason that teachers should not have guns is that teachers are there to teach the kids not be a security guards or a babysiter.…

In an age where people are trying to take guns away from law-abiding citizens; we need our guns now more than ever. Everytime there is a mass shooting this debate pops up, yet we continue to have mass shootings. If some teachers were allowed to conceal and carry guns in schools, mass shootings would dwindle. The resource officer at the Parkland shooting never went inside and 17 children died, meanwhile, the resource officer at the Maryland school shooting engaged the shooter and saved countless lives. This illustrates the effects that a capable person with a gun can have on saving the lives of children.…

With the increase of schools considering arming teachers as protection, prices are likely to pose an issue. According to Scott Whitman, an administrator at Jackson County School district looking into arming teachers in his school, said the cost would be the greatest factor. To arm and train ten teacher would easily exceed $25,000 a year, which both administrators and tax payers believe is an unneeded expense. To add to the already large expense, many teachers will ask to make a higher wage due to the fact that they are taking on more responsibilities (Yaccino, 2013).…

The purpose of a gun to many is a tool used for ending another’s life, but to me it is a tool meant for protection and security. Around a year ago my apartment was broken into by a con artist who had tricked me into showing him my room, he had told me he was a repair man here to replace the old locks with some newer ones. At the time I was fresh out of my parents’ house so I was quite gullible unfortunately, and let him "fix" all my locks. He had planned to break in when me and my roommate were supposed to be at school, however he miscalculated and we were both there.…
