During Elie’s time in his hometown Sighet, Elie has a different perspective on faith than anyone else in his town. This beloved holiday, Rosh Hashanah, is honored by Elie and the other Jews even though life in the camps is hectic. Rosh Hashanah is the last day of the accursed year. Elie states, “On the eve of Rosh Hashanah the last day of the accursed year, the whole camp was electric with the tension which was in all of our hearts” (Wiesel 63). Elie is stating even through rough times, the Jews are able to find rely on their faith for a reason to celebrate. Days upon days later Elie’s life takes a turn which affects his faith and he will soon regret this decision
