That year my family attended a conference regarding the disease to learn more about the TSC and its effects. At the conference, children were put into either a regular or “delayed” daycare service. The regular daycare was what the name implies- a typical daycare. The delayed daycare, however, was a daycare where nearly every child had an individual care-worker to make sure they would be okay. This influenced me to fundraise for TSC. Since third grade, I have helped host 5 walks, 8 golf outings, and 4 bowling tournaments. I have also been very fortunate to have been able to give speeches about my disease to a few hundred people, something I would love to do again. These events helped me develop my own leadership and communication abilities in ways most other people haven’t had the opportunities to do so.
These abilities carried through high school, where I was proud to be drum major and president of the band, expert lawyer for mock trial, historian of National Honor Society, and President of my class. The amount of work for those activities (along with others such as steel drum band, musical, choir, and academic games) was very time consuming, which allowed me to develop and understand the importance of properly prioritizing activities and budgeting time (as performing well in extracurricular along with regular classes required
