Deep Work by Cal Newport is a self-help book that shows “ rules for focused success in a distracted world.” The first half of the book Cal emphasizes the importance of what he calls deep work to the current job market and to the lives of those white collar John and Jane’s of the world, that let work take over their lives. The second half is used for providing tools to help get to the deep workflow, and minimize those distractions of your everyday life. Focus on the Wildly Important: “The more you try to do, the less you’ll actually accomplish” Instead of trying to do it all, you should focus on just the absolute important tasks, this will narrow your focus and provide quality results instead of a lot of half assed work.
Act on the Lead Measures: Lag measures are the things you are ultimately trying to improve (improving customer satisfaction at the bakery). These are things like reports that come in after what occurred that drove those numbers in the reports already happened. Lead measures are the new behaviors that will drive success on the lag measures. These are the tactics that you can directly affect. As the lead scores go up soon does the lag scores.
