Reflective Essay On Clinical Experience

This was the first week of this clinical experience where I felt that I was challenged with the patient I was assigned. I had to come up with ways to communicate with a client that was unable to voice his concerns and needs. During my second day with this client, I made a “yes” or “no” paper that he could point to in order to answer my questions. It was successful at first but as the day progressed he wasn’t responding to it as well. He was able to nod and shake his head, which allowed me to complete my head to toe and pick out the things that he was experiencing. On the second day he was experiencing chest pain and troubles breathing. This was the first client I have had who has experienced chest pain and to be honest, I wasn’t sure where to go with my assessments. After discussing it with the instructor and the RN on my team, I figured out a plan for what to do next. This was also the first time I have left a physicians alert in the patients chart. I felt this experience was very beneficial for my learning because I was forced to critically think and was pushed out of my regular routine. It gave me a better understanding of the level of change the patient was going through. I asked his daughter how she felt her father was coping with the change and she explained that he was very independent before this, so it’s a big change for him to be cared for to this level. She felt that he realizes he is 90 and that he may not recovery to the degree she would like. It almost made me feel down the first day working with him because I could see his frustration and a decrease in his

Clinical Context & Experience I completed my final two shifts on 11/24 and 12/1 at Sharp. The unit had a pretty large census both nights, so we were fairly busy both nights. During this shift I had to notify the doctor twice and felt the most relevant journal topic was advocacy. The first night I had three patients which included a 84 year old man who sustained a hip and right shoulder/humerous fracture from a fall at home and a history of HTN, CKD, MI with coronary stent placement, and diabetes, an 86 year old woman admitted for rapid A-fib with history of TIA, HTN, CHF, and rheumatoid arthritis, and finally a 35 year old woman who was being discharged following her treatment for polynephritis. During my final shift, I cared for a 71 year…

Dr. Ratner’s speech was extremely impactful. The story about his daughter really touched home for me. I was in a similar situation with my uncle who was diagnosed and died of AML Leukemia a few years, so I feel like I understood some aspects of his experience with his daughter quite well. I think healthcare or future healthcare provider learn a lot from experiencing a situation similar to what their patients will be. It helps put the healthcare provider in the patient’s shoes.…

I believe that being calm in any situation help make you take better decisions. I am employed in the healthcare field as an anesthesia technician and it is very demanding and stressful position Having to deal with doctors, nurses, and relatives taught me a valuable lesson in staying composed, immune from the verbal abuses from some patient’ s relatives and constant orders from physicians whose patience is lacking. Although it is a very hard thing to follow through with, I think it became a staple in my life even it was challenged about a year and a half ago. On a dark and serene night where the stars were dancing in the sky, the moon gracing the earth with it its radiance, and the night creatures singing, the dogs barking as if to tell…

My First Clinical Day Five days ago on February 3rd of 2016 was my first clinical day in the Rehabilitation Center in Key West. Today, before starting to write my weekly journal I started to ask myself how I felt on my first day at the clinic?. Four words came to my mind, pride, joy, fear and anxiety. Pride and joy because I am proud of where I’ve come so far as being an immigrant who came to this country as many others looking for their dream without knowing the language or even the culture. Fear and anxiety because I was nervous about having the feeling of not knowing anything, not knowing about what I would find there, the site or even the people.…

My first clinical experience was at St. Vincent hospital on a geriatric unit, when I was a second year nursing student. When a nurse on the unit asked for help with a bed bath for a patient with whom I was not familiar, I agreed. I wanted to get as much experience as I could. The nurse led me to the patient 's room right away.…
