Based on the reflection: Describe an event or an experience in your life that will influence your academic work and goals at Colorado Christian University.

My first experience of college was right after summer after my senior year in high school. I failed my English class, so I was required to complete this class in order to receive my high school diploma. Needless to say, it was a rude awakening in becoming an adult. More importantly, I realized my need for higher education. So immediately after, I began attending classes at my local community college.
I can admit, I have the gift of easily grasping academic material quickly, which is a good thing, or used as a bad habit. Which is what I did my first year in college, therefore I was not able to capitalize my time. After a year, I had the opportunity to join a program at the University level, for a year. From that point on, my life took a jolted turn, starting a family, getting into the military service, and finally entering the workforce.

It’s amazing to learn of your personal abilities, in the face of extreme situations, as in basic training, when there is a drill sergeant screaming in front of your face, kindly instructing you to get the job done. Or when there is nothing between you and ten thousand feet of open space, and you have to think of the training you received to make sure you safely arrive at the ground below. I was given the gift of personal confidence in myself, in any situation. I truly feel, the youth of this country would have a completely different mindset if there was a requirement of a two-year mandatory service in the military.
