Breaking Free
The multi-media piece I created is called Breaking Free. In this piece I used ink to draw a small bird perched on a branch. I then used chalk in order to add colour to the piece by colouring the branch brown and adding a multi-colour effect to the bird. In the eye I incorporated a black piece of photo paper with hints on white.
I choose to do this piece as it I feel it represents me entering this completely new experience of university. I decided to draw a bird because travelling way up north to go to school as I did, reminds me of a bird migrating south for the winter. Birds spend half the year at their home and the other half travelling away from it which is how I feel spending the school year here. I made this bird perched slightly uncomfortably on a branch as if it has just reached its destination, this is to represent the fact that I am not completely comfortable in my new home yet. With time this bird will make a nest and settle down as with time I will be more comfortable in my new home and begin to consider it a second home. I drew the bird in sketchy and unsolid lines opposed to clear, concise,

However I am not completely pleased with how I coloured the bird in. I enjoy the colours and how they blend but wish I had done them in a less liney fashion. If I were to do it again I would group the colours more in order to avoid the liney look.
The finished copy differentiates from my initial plans quite drastically. I had planned to use ink and watercolour paint and ended up using ink, chalk and a part of a photo. This created a look I was still happy with just very different then what I first intended. I had also hoped to have a more random and chaotic look to the piece and help capture my emotion moving here but ended up with a more uniform look to the

Marc Chagall’s painting of the Prophet Isaiah is very dramatic. In the center, the painting depicts the moment when a seraph purifies Isaiah’s lips with live coal. In the Bible, Isaiah focuses on his “unclean lips” from speaking sins in the past and how those sins would make it impossible to speak the word of Yahweh. To make it so that he could receive the gift of utterance, the seraph purified his lips (Armstrong 42). This gave Isaiah the ability to purely convey the words he will be asked to speak and if it had not happened, it is quite possible that Isaiah would never have been able to spread the word as was necessary for the prophet.…

I chose the image of the few of the dalmatian puppies from 101 Dalmatians Disney movie near a dog food can that is very similar in style to Andy Warhol’s Campbell 's soup cans. I chose this image because 101 Dalmatians is one of my favorite Disney films. I also enjoy some of Andy Warhol’s work and his Campbell’s Soup Cans is one of his more famous works. I found this image is a part of the Disney fine art program. Tricia Buchanan-Benson is the artist of this piece.…

My next step after establishing the plot was to create a storyboard. The storyboard required much design because I had to make executive decisions regarding which scene should be drawn to depict each stage of the Hero’s journey. The design required in my storyboard proved to be the most influential in guiding my later additions to the project. Pink described design as being the “combination of utility and significance” (Pink 70) and from drafting my storyboard I had to decide which scenes were not only vital, but also capable of best representing the flow of the narrative.…

The artwork I have chosen to analyze is a wood-fired sculptural piece of pottery. The work is listed as taking the form of a blade, and was crafted by Daniel Johnston. The piece is a part of a curated show entitled Pot Madness, which was on display in Hunt Gallery. Pot Madness showcased a small portion of Bill Potter’s collection of wood-fired pots. The blade itself stands upright at thirty-five inches, one of the taller pieces in the collection, but is quite narrow both in width and depth.…

Who would have thought to use Social Media along with Photography to be major tools of an awareness campaign? The image above is example of what is “Project Unbreakable”. This particular picture talks about epidemic Child Sexual Abuse. Project Unbreakable lies within a sub genre of awareness campaigns. In this particular analysis I am going to argue that “Project Unbreakable” is able to increase awareness about Child Sexual Abuse through social media and photography, and is successful in making us realize the pain of survivors through color of posters and text and words.…

I went to the Porterville Art Association which is a local non-profit organization in Porterville, CA that contains artwork from local artists whom most are high school students. There were several different art pieces that caught my attention; however, the one that stood out the most was “Grapes of Wrath,” by Lizbeth Andrade a high school student from Porterville. Lizbeth Andrade uses many different art techniques to give the meaning or message of her art work. Lizbeth Andrade uses water colors which are pigments suspended into water-soluble glue and ink a colored fluid to create her art piece. The art piece consists of animism because it uses nature as a spiritual force.…

When I went to the McNay Art Museum I chose Song of Margaret for Margaret by Carl Rice Embrey. The painting was done with acrylic polymer emulsion on panel in 1973. This representational painting has a lot of eye catching and visually pleasing points. The feel of looking out onto a field from inside a room is a life like view. One thing I noticed is that shape was used.…

Life is a beautiful thing. This is further reinforced by “The Century Quilt” as it uses its tone, structure, and imagery to achieve this to be its message to the reader. Warnicke’s use of literacy elements throughout the poem also does this. The poem is about an old man or woman reflecting on the long life they had lived.…

The Raven Reader Response The distinction between imagination and real life in literature is sometimes hard to identify. The authors of these types of works make imagination seem so realistic that the audience begins to believe the character's imagination. In the poem, The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe, an imaginary bird, or perceived to be an imaginary bird, flies into the narrator's home late in the night signaling to him that death was on its way. The bird in this poem may seem real but there are many signs that it is not.…

Can you set the truth free? From my point of view that you should always tell the truth so you don’t need to suffer the worst consequences later in life and will get more into trouble. What the theme means to me is that everyone should tell the truth no matter what because whatever you had kept away could possibly save the world and it is more easier to get it off. The way that people should live is if you don’t let go of the truth you will find out that it will come back for you later in the future. I think that telling the truth could lead to better things while growing up and that we shouldn’t lie about the truth.…

In 1909 Sergei Shchkin, a Russian industrialist, asked Henri Matisse for three large paintings to decorate part of his house (Matisse, Dance I, n.d.). Dance 1 was one of these paintings (Matisse, Dance I, n.d.). Two versions exist of this painting, the initial version, was considered by Matisse as a preparatory sketch and was created in 1909 while the final version has different colors and was finished in 1910. Both versions are considered oil paintings (Matisse, Dance I, n.d.). “Dance 1” has a similar design than another painting he made in 1906 titled “Bonheur de Vivre” (Matisse, Dance I, n.d.).…

The artist I chose to write about was Kathe Kollwitz and the art I chose from her to write about is The Widow, from War (1921-22), published in 1923. This piece is in black and white like most of Kollwitz’s pieces. The woman has her head tilted down; she looks sad and possibly depressed. Her hands are worn and rough and one can tell she has worked hard during her life. Her belly is large indicating the woman is pregnant.…

Thus, Plath uses the non-individualistic sparrows to represent the ramifications of Millicent’s choice to join the sorority because she will not be able to free and an individual since she will have to follow the standards and rules set by the sorority as like everyone else in the group. However, Plath also utilizes the other types of birds who are not part of a flock, but how free and individualistic these birds are to symbolize the outcome of Millicent’s decision if she does not join the sorority; because she will not follow the standards and rules set by the sorority which will allow her to be free and an individual like the other types of birds. Thus, the different types of birds represent how a person should be an individual to be able to free and not follow the rules set by society or a certain group. Moreover, this utilization of symbolism confirms the theme; a person does not need to follow the social norms to be accepted into society, to demonstrate the importance of being an individual and not collapsing under the pressure of society’s set standards. In addition, in “Initiation”, Plath…
