Trish was in a similar situation, struggling to feed a resident who could barely open her mouth and was speech impaired. Tricia looked to me for help at one point, but I could only shrug and direct her to a healthcare aid. We both had no idea what we were doing and were both visibly uncomfortable. While we struggled to feed one resident each, the healthcare aids administered meds, prepped food, and fed the rest of the residents. After forty minutes or so I finished feeding the resident and helped her back to her room.

It was our first day of real clinical experience, and despite a semester of preparation, I was not ready. I wanted the healthcare aids to offer to help me as I was struggling, but I understand how busy they were. If I kept bugging them about the coughing issue I would have been another addition to their workload. Trish was in the same situation as me, appeared to be feeling similarly, and just wanted to feed her resident safely. She was hesitant to ask for help from the healthcare aids too, presumably because of how busy they
