This course WRIT 1500 was the best choice I could have made as a freshman. My first semester I took WRIT1100 and this semester I took 1500 and each one have taught me how to improve my writing and to try and find who I am as a writer. Mr. Murray has helped me improve my writing on analysis, developing, and proofreading. So far every essay these are the topics that I typically see comments on and he is always giving me advice on how to fix it and make it a enhanced essay overall. As a person I don’t typically proofread and that might be a strong downfall because I tend to loose a lot of points over it. For example my first essay I saw a comment that asked me if I proofread. In class I have learned many things from improving my writing, to thinking outside the box to finding new writing styles from other people that I can add to my own. I think this is very critical because if you cant find the type of style you like to write then it will be hard to really compose an essay that is good because there wont be any of you in it and it will show if you weren’t entranced in composing it. I have also learned that there is always a way to convalesce your reading even if you read it over and over you can always add something. I think along with my proofreading I think something else that could get better is clear organization sometimes I tend to skip around and add other things that are related but not related to the thesis that I come up with. For example my last essay I came up with a thesis about how racism can lead a person to be limited in the things they can do and in return can make that person miserable. I had to pick a topic that went along with this thesis, which I chose work discrimination, I had articles and a book to show how work discrimination is still current and how it is effecting society badly. In the end I had to tie this with my thesis and I found this very hard to do but it

During this summer session of ENGL101A, I have learned multiple ways to express myself through my writing. In fact, before signing up for this class, I did not know the proper way to compose an academic essay for a particular audience, and how to properly cite my sources. Nevertheless, after the short summer session, I am able to define my purpose and audience, analyze critically any piece of information, and write with proper citations and fewer grammatical errors with confidence. Through the short time of 5 weeks, I learned how to focus on my audience as well as how to define the purpose of my papers as academically as possible.…

My essays have improve over the semester, because now I know what mistakes I should be aware of committing. Also because I was able too look back in my whole process and argumentative essay and noticed the insufficient amount of detail and support I was providing. As a writer I feel that I need to focus in writing strong thesis statements that are going to capture the readers attention. I also need to pay more attention when it comes to developing an essay because I tend to leave out important information that’s going to make my essay…

Adequate writing was always a struggle for me because I struggled with coming up with topics to write about. Even when teachers gave us prompts to write about I struggled writing about them mostly because I thought writing was boring. Another reason I was discouraged by writing was I would spend hours at a time trying to come up with ideas for a prompt and would barely come up with any ideas to write about. Being a civil engineering major I see why writing is so important in my career field. My experience with writing has had its good moments and its bad moments.…

To me, writing is just ok, nothing special. It definitely isn’t something I get excited about. My first formal writing class was in 6th grade, where we followed The Institute for Excellence in Writing’s curriculum. My fellow classmates and I mainly wrote short, 1-3 paragraph reports on various historical topics. I did well in these classes, I just never really enjoyed the process of writing.…

Learning to read is a skill many can obtain quickly or not so well. Myself, on the other hand was one of the many children who struggled with not only the thought of reading, but the actual process of reading not only a book, but sentences, word and sounding out words. Struggling through elementary with reading problems and on and off again help made it seem even worse. Going into kindergarten was intimidating, with all the bright colored posters with words even I couldn’t read. Having to be assigned seats next to strangers who soon would become my closest friends.…

This semester has flown by; however, English 101 has shaped my writing in so many ways. Initially, I did not recognize the ways which rhetoric, technology, research, and collaboration have affected my writing. As I review my work from this semester, it is quite noticeable that my writing has improved a lot since English IV honors. Rhetoric Of all the things I have learned in English 101, rhetoric has continued to be something I use.…

Over the course of this semester in my English 1320 class I have seen a drastic change throughout my writing style. Although I still have difficulties with a few writing tasks, I believe that I have improved significantly throughout this course. I have found that with my professor’s guidance along with my own personal editing that my grades have increased. Although it is difficult to not get caught up in simply striving for a letter grade or attaining a 4.0 grade point average, I would like to believe that my main goal was different. Of course I would love to achieve those goals as well, but overall my primary goal throughout this class was to become more relaxed and comfortable in my writings, to use new strategies and proper kinds of conventions, and to truly find a way to express my passion on these papers.…

Everyone hates English class is what I thought before taking English 102. However, that may have been the case before I entered Dr. Byrd’s domain, but after finishing the class I have come to the realization that English class can be greatly resourceful. English 102 this year has had its ups and downs, and I must admit the ups outweigh the downs. Meaning, this year, I have learned that I am not a student who wants to read or write, but through reading and writing my mind and skill sets concerning English have grown. During English 102 this year, reading and writing in class helped me expand my writing skills, improved my will to comprehend, and most importantly helped expand my knowledge.…

I was not an excellent writer at the beginning of the school year, but I can gladly say now that I have inherited more writing skills that I will benefit from in the future. One of those skills is being able to reflect on every angle on my topic to allow me to organize my ideas accurately. This skill is beneficial to learn, for it helped with my report essay to acquire the focus of my paper more clearly. Moreover, this skill helped me write papers in my other classes more easily and efficiently. Likewise, my voice can be read strongly throughout the personal narrative essay, because the passion I had for my topic was an emotional one.…

I learned proofreading is a harder than I though when I have no idea what the main question to be answered is. Proofreading a fellow students paper in a class where everyone is writing about the same thing is much easier. The classmates paper I read was missing the abstract, which brings the paper together as a whole. It was a challenge to provide feedback, as I did not want know what sub topic the writer was trying to convey.…

This English class has been very helpful in my efforts to improve my writing abilities, but has also been very challenging due to there being a different median for every essay. It’s been a heavy work load especially this semester since I decided to enroll in five classes, but in the end it has been very beneficial indeed. I can’t say that writing essays has been one of my strong points but I believe that this course has helped me improve tremendously and it has also made me feel a lot more comfortable with my writing. While in high school I would usually write all of my essays a day before the due date a habit of mine that was very difficult to overcome, but now I have learned from my mistakes.…
