In this activity we added acting to the lines, for instance; one group member would read a line of the poem and another group member would act out what is being said. The poem explains that even when children look like they are “just playing” they are actually learning in different ways. This poem and activity was also interesting because it goes along with what we do in this course and what young children do in school. In this class, we do a lot of exercises on our feet, such as creating statue figures out of our bodies etc. and when someone passes by our classroom they may not understand what we are learning or doing, but there is purpose to each activity. The same goes for preschool or kindergarten children which “play” in their classroom every day, some parents/teachers see it as a waste of time or not educational but they are actually learning as they …show more content…
For instance, in this course not all of the exercises are always fun, some are repetitive or longer than others, and standing for a long period of time can get tiring and dull. A few exercise I did not necessarily connect to were “Space/Negative Space” and “Lean and Leave.” The exercise named “Space/Negative Space” consists of a class broken into two groups, the first group goes into the center and freezes into a group statue with minimal instructions, the other group then moves into the same space and position themselves in different ways to fit into the statue, the first group then leaves. The groups then discuss the different statues that were made using body shapes. I didn’t connect to this activity as much as I did with other ones because I am more hands on like to be on the move, I become impatient when waiting for my turn and this exercise does require standing still for a period of time. I do like that I noticed that I wasn’t quite comfortable with this exercise because it shows areas in which I may need to work on and also helps me make realizations about myself that I didn’t know
