Reflective Essay On Acting Skills

For my piece of practical work I had to frequently switch characters and successfully convey the differences between each part I played through the use of my acting skills. In the earlier stages of rehearsals I was concentrating on my role as a student and my role as teacher. In one scene I immediately change role from that of a teacher to a student. When playing my role of Emily Griffin a year 11 student I first put on an accent to correspond to the area my character was living in and therefore used a South London accent. I was consistently changing the tone of my voice dependant on the way my character was feeling at the time. My character of Emily was constantly changing her emotions from happy in which I used a higher pitch and spoke at a faster pace in an excited tone; to angry where I changed to a …show more content…
My role as the dinner lady was perhaps the most complicated character but I only developed the role at the end of the rehearsal process. My character had a backstory as to how she became a dinner lady and I based certain characteristics upon her childhood. The dinner ladies were also adults just like the teachers however there were some major differences. The dinner ladies were common and rough but not at all stressed and they actuallly liked the students. In the very late stages of the reahearsal process I saw that the dinner ladies shared many characteristics to the students and I tried to mirror the parts so that my role as the student was replicated in the role of the dinner lady. My character of the dinner lady had an accent similar but not exactly the same to the student. She was for the most part happy throughout the scene and so I used joyful facial expressions but switched to one of sadness and regret when I dwelled on the past. I interacted extremely well with the other two dinner ladies conveying the sense of a long lasting

In acting one I feel like I learned why more than what I intended. I think what most people and I would have thought is that acting is learning about how to play other people. But what we all can learn is that acting is way more then that. Acting is knowing that you can be anything in this whole entire universe even if this universe sees you as a nobody. I feel like everyday in this class I have a little bit more about myself.…

From the first activity, I thought Bradley’s words were melodramatic but as the lesson progressed I realised there was truth to his perspective. Taking inspiration from my initial thought my group decided to exaggerate the first scene starting with Aastha, Erin, Georgia and Maddi who all played the roles of futuristic robots. They conveyed their role by having their face faced downwards and only when I switched the ‘button’ on with an elongated ‘beep’ sound they began to start operating. They remain stationary with a neutral facial expression, arms parallel in front and rigid body posture, to convey they could only be operated by human commands. I portrayed my role as a chef by walking very frantically and rapidly, furrowed eyebrows and a scowled…

My interpretation of homelessness is, homelessness is a problem faced by people who lack a secure and affordable place over their head. Throughout the sessions I gradually learnt more about people suffering due to homelessness and what they did on a day to day basis. We read the poem ‘Hungerford Bridge’ - written by Katie Campbell, to help us understand the stereotypes that are used against homeless people and how the stereotypes contribute to the attitude towards the homeless society. In one session we had to explore the higher class people 's attitude towards the homelessness people.…

The Woman In Black is a famous ghost story written by Susan Hill, adapted for the stage by Stephen Mallatratt and directed by Robin Herford. It was performed at the Royal and Derngate Northampton theatre on the 13th of November 2014. I had read the novel before seeing the theatre production of the tale, and therefore I already knew about the story. However, I had heard that the theatre production made use of only two actors, and as there are significantly more characters in the story than just two, I was intrigued and excited to see how this had been done.…

During the residency I became more self-aware of my ability to be able to take on new situations. I also learned that being a school counselor is truly what I want to do. I felt inspired at the residency and felt empowered that I would be bringing back more to myself, students, school, and community. However, I also became self-aware of my need for personal time. Being away from my family and work and taking into account my more reserved nature, I found that I was able to reflect on my own needs.…

I sometimes get nervous about what people are thinking about my speech when I am giving it but if I don’t judge people from the audience then I will have the mindset when I am on stage that people from the audience are not judging me. Lastly, I think that I will be able to get up in front of people and give a speech without getting extremely nervous. I haven’t had much experience with speaking in front of big groups but hopefully by the end of this semester I will be very good at it without having any nervous feelings if someone asked me to give a public…
