Reflective Essay: My Writing Outside Of School

Decent Essays
Really, the only kind of writing I do outside of school is text my friends. It’s been a pretty long time since i’ve written a story or something outside of school. The reason for that is because I don’t like to write without a specific subject. To be honest, I’m ok with writing, as long as it has some sort of a subject. I absolutely despise having to write some random story that doesn’t have any control, it’s just not fun. If I have to write a biography on some famous person in history, that's the kind of thing I would enjoy. I guess some free writing is ok, as long as I don’t have to write like 10 pages of it, or it’s ok if it doesn’t have a due date or it’s not something I do in school. When I try to do freewriting, I just can’t come up with …show more content…
When I try to write, the hardest thing for me is definitely trying to begin it. But once I get focused and have lots of ideas, it’s really easy. The most enjoyable thing in writing for me is, like I said a few sentences ago, something to do with history. Outside of school, not much changes with my writing. I still use commas, apostrophes, periods, stuff like that. I’d say my most memorable writing experience is in 6th grade when I wrote a biography about Abraham Lincoln. When I was writing it, I actually enjoyed it because he was an interesting person. If I was a writing teacher, I would have more structured kinds of assignments, not just free writing, and try to cater more to what everyone in the class wants to do. There's nothing wrong with letting them do free writing, but if some of the kids in the class hate that then they shouldn’t be forced to do it, instead they could have some kind of subject the teacher could assign them, or pick from a list. I guess I do kind of like to write, short stories are pretty fun, like 1-3 pages. Long stories definitely aren't that fun unless it’s something you have a lot to write

Then after finding the right amount of work to compose my own paper I start out with a title page.…

Literacy Narrative I did a lot of writing while I was in the tenth grade. The English teacher I had at the time was the best when it came down to writing. I did not have too much interest in writing at the time but Mrs. Perez changed that, she gave me a new perception on writing and how it can change society. Mrs. Perez would always recommend really good books, one of which was a book called “His Dark Materials”. This story is about a young girl and her allies, fight for the discover of a dark substance called the “Dust”.…

I’ve also done some writing outside of the classroom. For example, recently my sister was married and since I was her maid of honor, she asked me to write a speech to read at her wedding reception. That was easy, in my opinion, because I do love to write. I feel that I have a way with words and those words just come to me. When I read my speech at her wedding in front of all her friends and family, there was not a dry eye in the room, which made me feel fantastic.…

I don’t like reading because yeah, you can remember about the book you read, but a story will always hold a place in anyone’s heart. If I were a writing teacher, I would teach my students that it’s the best to tell the truth and explain about your life or the things that are holding you back, because life keeps moving on and you have to be a cheerful person to succeed. Writing helps me understand life better and listening to people’s stories is my favorite thing to do, because it’s really enjoyable seeing whom a person really…

This is great for theories that you come up with while reading so that you remember them when are you looking back in your notes. To me, writing has always been busy work and something that teachers only used to create grades. My writing experience in high school was very limited to one category in: practice AP essays. The writing I did in class was always preparing for AP exams and was very fact based. Most essays, such as history, were only used to show that I knew the material and weren’t graded on how good the writing was. I didn’t feel like I had any freedom to stray away from the format that the AP graders expected because I didn’t want that to affect my score.…

This assignment will critically reflect on how Learning Outside the Classroom engages and supports children, as well as analysing how effective the approach is and the impact it has on children’s learning and behaviour. Learning Outside the Classroom (LotC) is an umbrella term which covers every type of learning experience which occurs outside the classroom. The particular focus of this assignment will be learning outside in a natural outdoor environment, which is also an important aspect of Forest Schools, however for the purposes of this assignment I have chosen to take my focus on just this, as well as discussing how I can use this knowledge to develop myself professionally as a trainee teacher. There are various studies to suggest that learning outside the classroom helps to aid a well-rounded and enhanced education for children, where they are given the opportunity to excel and flourish as young individuals. There are countless links between LotC and children’s attainment in…
