I am grateful for Writing 120: Effective Writing for giving me knowledge of grammar mistakes to avoid using in future papers, writing skills to implement in my work, and techniques for bettering an academic presentation. I was taught common grammatical errors for the first time in my academic career, such as dangling modifiers and faulty predication. These are mistakes I often make in my writing, which made it very illuminating to learn that there are a plethora of things I still have to learn.
The three essays we wrote throughout this course were very helpful in allowing me to diversify my abilities as a writer. Writing a memoir caused me to have to dig deep and analyze an aspect of my life that I never thought twice about. Moving to different …show more content…
My siblings and cousins all grew up admiring his ability to prevail through the many hardships he faced in his lifetime. His music gave us the motivation to stay strong through any obstacles as he often promoted the positive mentalities of not only racial equality, but also the love of all people without prejudice. His unconditional love and support of many different causes was unseen by anyone else in the music industry and my admiration for him was not transient and strongly remains to this day.
The persuasive essay affected me in different fashion; it allowed me to grow as a researcher and public speaker. In the past I was asked to write multiple lengthy research papers, and to give multiple lengthy presentations, however, I was never instructed to give a presentation on a paper I had written. For that reason, I was forced to deduce the most important information from my writing and convey its significance to the topic and its relevance to the audience and the rest of society. I overcame my fear of public speaking a little more by presenting on a topic I was passionate about and well-versed
