The Grade I Should Get in ESL 203 In ESL 203 I should get a grade A, which is the highest grade of the course. Wilmington University offers the course “English as a Second Language: Advanced Grammar and Writing” (ESL 203), which is designed for international students to “learn about the writing process, features of specific essay types, developing content, and expressing themselves in comprehensible and grammatical language” (Wilmington University, 2016a). Even though I still make mistakes, but I can do the self-check to correct common grammatical errors and successfully completed all the course requirements. The first reason to get the highest grade is that I can review the first draft my own and prepare a better version by minimizing the…
I believe my grade should be a solid B. I do everything I can to finish my work on time. Most of the assignments I’ve turned in where on time. These past 6 weeks, I try to do my best on all assignments assigned.…
The Grades Challenge Freshman year was a difficult year for my grades. I was failing a few classes and it seemed like the harder I focused on the percentage, the farther I got away from it. I talked to my teachers about how I could try to get my grades up and was simply told “you won’t get a better grade.” I was stuck with what I had is what I was told, and they ended up being right about that year. I was worried that maybe something was wrong; maybe I wasn’t as smart as I used to be.…
I will admit, that my handwriting in essays from this year and essays from my past years have departed from looking alike to each other. Yet, this hides the true progress I have made in terms of understand reading material and writing with more clarity and precision. Truly, I feel that my work in AP English this year has had a great impact on my writing capabilities. First, we will look at the all the different writing type that was given to me throughout the year. The first things we have are the group essays.…
To me, writing is just ok, nothing special. It definitely isn’t something I get excited about. My first formal writing class was in 6th grade, where we followed The Institute for Excellence in Writing’s curriculum. My fellow classmates and I mainly wrote short, 1-3 paragraph reports on various historical topics. I did well in these classes, I just never really enjoyed the process of writing.…
The Final Test I passed the final test, but they didn’t. It all started with my class, called the “9ers”. We were the first class to ever have their whole grade graduate on the same day. We were the smartest of them all, is what the counselor told us. All we had to do was pass the final test to figure out who were leaving to go to the new community.…
I have always believed that teachers shape the people we become. They influence us just as much as our family. I have been fortunate enough to meet four extraordinary teachers along my educational path. They taught me not only how to improve my writing, but life lessons that made me the thinker and writer I am today. Mrs. Ceci was the first teacher who brought me out of my shell.…
Writing has been my talent since grade school; I couldn’t sing, or dance but I could write, or so I thought. Then, I entered high school and realized that writing required a lot more than it did in middle school. The brisk pace and advanced comprehension skills required for my English three AP course caused my grades to suffer. I have struggled with college level essay writing tremendously, but through hard-work I have been able to write with more ease and finesse than ever before.…
My Road to Reading and Writing As Mark Twain said, “The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who cannot read”. Many people today don’t take up reading or writing as a hobby. A lot of people would not even read a book for entertainment or to expand their knowledge and the most they write is a post on social media. In my opinion, most people know how to read but chose not to because they are uninterested or unwilling which causes them no to be as proficient in writing.…
Seeing that grade made me want to improve my writing and find the areas that I need to work on the most. One concern with my writing that I began to realize after writing the first essay was that I did not know how to thoroughly include all of the content. I was able to get around that issue by taking the time to read the material given before I began writing.…
During my junior year of high school, I made one B and that was in English. I was truly disappointed in myself. It is quite funny that, my sophomore to senior year of high school, I had the same teacher, Ms. Widemon. She did not truly teach me how to write a paper, but she was extremely super harsh on grading. She was a former journalist.…
To be completely honest I have mixed feelings about writing and I don’t really have any memorable experiences that made me feel this way, it is just the experiences that I have had with the subject while trying to apply it. I struggle with what to write down mostly and creativity in general and I don’t really excel at any part of it. If I were to say I “excel” at anything it would be revising my work and adding to it. At the end of the semester I hope that I have relearned some key writing elements that lack of practice has caused me to lose.…
1. Communication I was unsure on what to do with my life, but I did know that it was in the field of healthcare. After taking health related courses are the University of Waterloo, I was ensured that I wanted to pursue a career in this field. At the beginning of the class, I had no idea as to which specific career I wanted to venture into, but I always knew that I would want to work with a lot of people.…
Throughout this semester of English 101, writing has become more of a skill than a struggle. Writing was a challenge that I dreaded when I chose to be in the course, nonetheless with time, I learned from my mistakes and was able to improve. This course made me very doubtful on whether I could be capable of even writing a paper that would provide me with a decent grade, but at the same time made me push myself in my writing technique. In the end, I can reflect that I learned from my mistakes and wrote papers that took time and dedication to accomplish. I learned from this class to be confident in my writing and make all the mistakes to receive the grade I want in the end.…
At the beginning of this English course, I was so nervous and scared that I would fail. I do not think I have ever been a good writer. It has always terrified me because I have difficulty putting my thoughts down on paper. This course has proven to be highly inspiring to me as well as frightening. It has really taught me more about the understanding of the writing process and structure, in which helped me to not focus so much on the actual writing parts.…
