Reflective Essay: Moving Back To Permaculture In Canada

Decent Essays
The last year and a half I spend it abroad with the aim of providing the necessary support to a family member. The first months I focused solely on that. This year, because of my passion for social and environmental issues, I also spent some of my time advising poor local farmers so they could adopt some permaculture practices that will increase their self-sufficiency. At this time, I am ready to go back to Canada, but would like to relocate in British Columbia. My official address is still in Montreal, but I have all ready to move.

In the story “My Manitoba Heritage”, writer “Gabrielle Roy” family initially settle in Saskatchewan and then to Alberta, but the street of Deschambault, Manitoba was a place, where 1/3 flavour was found from Quebec and 1/3 from France. Though, writer's childhood was a purest francophone at Manitoba, but doctor, notary and teacher was from Quebec. Regardless of other immigrants of French nationality/language, Italian, Walloon or Flemings, Quebecois culture remains intact with its most distinct originality in writer's heart and that can never be forgotten(Karpinski, p.316). I agree with the statement that Canada’s policy on multiculturalism fragment the Canadian population into cultural and linguistic factions and thereby creates divisions…

Five hundred years have passed since European contact was made with what is now known as America. Colonization quickly followed, creating a New World with distinct cultures, traditions, religion, and politics. However, an economy driven society would prove to be the most influential factor during this settlement. The Industrial Revolution would not only alter human history in America, but would also drastically modify the natural environment as man progressed across the continent and learned to acclimate and exploit nature for its overall advancement. Both Changes in the Land by William Cronon and The Organic Machine by Richard White, discuss the effects man has had on the American environment—and vice versa—since early colonial days of settlement.…

Times have been rough, but I am sure you are aware of this. I am writing to you in a time of extremely dire circumstances. During a case I was part of not too long ago a discourteous lawyer absolutely engulfed in his work decided to say such words that have lifted a forgotten sprit within me. After speaking to the Attorney General about allowing 'mixed company' to be present in cases about prostitution, I was much too overjoyed about winning that I failed to realize the many injustices that are still prevailing, ruining our fellow sisters. It is because of this reason that when I heard such infantile words come out of that lawyers mouth was I absolutely appalled.…

Gardening was a ‘forced’ hobby for a good portion of my childhood. Since elementary school, I worked with my dad in our back yard; I would dig holes, carry bags of manure, and plant flowers and trees. I complained that it would be easier to go to the store and buy a bag of blackberries instead of toiling in the sun for hours to achieve the same thing. I never imagined that I’d end up gardening for fun. Every year, my brother and I would collect the fruits of our labor; every year, I’d appreciate my efforts more and more.…

Just as many young children fantasize about, I went through a variety of answers to the question of “what do you want to be when you grow up,” from a firefighter to deep sea diving to an astronaut, until I began to develop my true passion for agriculture. Being a student in an agricultural education class at my middle school many years ago began to open my eyes to the vast agriculture industry.
