Reflective Essay: Learning How To Drive My First Car

Improved Essays
Fortunately in my life of existence I haven’t had to experience any major obstacles and/or hardships in my life. Learning how to drive my first car, which turned out to be a manual transmission over the summer break, shows an obstacle in my life. This type of endeavor greatly pushed me to the limit to solve this unforeseeable problem I had to overcome, because during this time I had no one to instruct me. I felt extremely out of my comfort zone, because I had to complete a task I set out to do that I had no idea on how to accomplish at first. I had to look through guides and tutorials at first to even figure out how to get going using the clutch and gear system. Surprisingly amusing to look back on it now considering how effortless, and unconsciously

Ted's wishes By jacob Kothe When it comes to driving a stick shift manual car, you can get a little stressed out. What I mean by that when you're driving around the neighborhood with your instructor (my dad) he makes you turn, a lot stop on hills, and insures that you stop at a stop sign, when you think that he insures that you stop at stop signs you think of something else. You have to go up to the sign and push down on the clutch. And stop at the sign press down the gas and slowly let off the clutch. You would think that's pretty easy, but if you overload the transmission, then your car dies, you have to start it back up and if you you let of the clutch off to fast the car starts bouncing and won't stop bouncing so you just keep bouncing.…

Goals are something that I have always thought about in my life. Whether it be graduating high school, passing a test, or going to college. Back then I had a lot of simple goals that were easy to accomplish, but now it’s time to start making those goals much bigger. As for my first goal I would like to graduate college with no complications. To do this I will have to always stay on task, turn work in when it is due, and taking care of things before it’s too late.…

I am equally sure that it has taken years of my dad’s life from the stress I have induced. If I didn’t learn how to drive this morning, I would have to cancel picking up my girlfriend later that evening. I could imagine myself calling her up and saying, “I am sorry to inform you but I can’t drive my car because I killed my dad and broke the vehicle because I am stupid.” This was not a call I was not prepared to make. I put my foot down firmly on what I now knew was the clutch, then put it into 1st.…

My first car was a red Acura RSX, 2002. I loved this car, and would always try to keep it as clean as possible. I had this car for about two years. On the summer of 2014, I stopped cleaning it the way I used to and was also not really into it anymore. It had been two years and I wanted a new car.…

“Mom, I can’t do it,” I repeated, exasperated, for the second time since we started driving together the previous week. It was the summer I turned 17 and I was finally conquering my Achilles’ heel — learning to drive. The car moved slightly too much to the left. I hit the brakes and the car jerked, something that gave both my mother and me headaches.…

At the age of nine, I began to mow the lawn. I was always ecstatic to drive anything, especially by myself because then I was free to move where I wanted as fast as I wanted. After living in our new house in Iowa for a few months, Dad bought a brand-new Craftsman riding lawnmower. I was pumped! Soon, I would be driving!…

Writing has been my talent since grade school; I couldn’t sing, or dance but I could write, or so I thought. Then, I entered high school and realized that writing required a lot more than it did in middle school. The brisk pace and advanced comprehension skills required for my English three AP course caused my grades to suffer. I have struggled with college level essay writing tremendously, but through hard-work I have been able to write with more ease and finesse than ever before.…

My Road to Reading and Writing As Mark Twain said, “The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who cannot read”. Many people today don’t take up reading or writing as a hobby. A lot of people would not even read a book for entertainment or to expand their knowledge and the most they write is a post on social media. In my opinion, most people know how to read but chose not to because they are uninterested or unwilling which causes them no to be as proficient in writing.…

My first car was something that I greatly was looking forward to getting as a child and my interest in getting one grew, as the days got closer to my sixteenth birthday. The first car I owned was a Automatic Black 2004 Ford f-150 truck, which I discovered on a website called Craigslist. It was priced at five thousand nine hundred dollars with only eighty-four thousand miles on it, which in my case was great considering that I could only afford a seven thousand dollar car. The truck came with all manual locks and windows and also had a small amount of hail damage that could really only be seen at a certain angle. But even with reasonable price on the truck I still attempted to negotiate for an even lower price to further my luck.…

Throughout this semester of English 101, writing has become more of a skill than a struggle. Writing was a challenge that I dreaded when I chose to be in the course, nonetheless with time, I learned from my mistakes and was able to improve. This course made me very doubtful on whether I could be capable of even writing a paper that would provide me with a decent grade, but at the same time made me push myself in my writing technique. In the end, I can reflect that I learned from my mistakes and wrote papers that took time and dedication to accomplish. I learned from this class to be confident in my writing and make all the mistakes to receive the grade I want in the end.…

Being part of the generation who grew up watching Fast and the Furious films has always made me want to drive a car. At that time I knew I still had a while before I could drive, but any chance I got to be in the driver seat I would. My first time I ever got behind the wheel was right after I watch the fast and the furious in 2001. It was during the summer, my mom was washing her car and according to her “I accidently locked myself inside and somehow I managed to turn the car on and started backing up the car.” My mom was so scared she started yelling “put the car on park” “put the car on park” but I had no clue what she meant.…

English 2010 has been a learning experience for me, I've been able to learn a lot about english that I did not know or work on before. With the first essay that we worked on I did a memoir I really enjoyed working on this paper, In class we were able to get freedom to add pictures to are pictures make it a little bit more creative I certainly was not used to this; I’ve been told my whole schooling experience that you have the intro and the conclusion and three body paragraphs. The memoir I was able to write to what I felt like I needed it to be, add pictures so it could appeal more to the eye when reading and also made it easier.…

My personal experience and take away from English 111 was what I expected it would be before I started the course. No, there was no “life changing” moment for me from this course and I honestly I can’t say I am a better or worse citizen for taking this class, but I can say my writing skills have improved, and that I feel more confident in my writing than prior to taking this course. Writing has and continues to be a challenge for me, I have no illusion that I will ever be a “perfect” or even a “good” writer for that matter, but because some of things I learned in how to prepare and to write an essay I feel I’m a much improved writer. Specifically the topics covered from the first module of this course help my development.…
