Looking back on past English classes that I have taken, and comparing my work, I am impressed on how my writing skills have improved. This class in particular has been a fundamental step in improving my skills, and has allowed me to become an effective and critical thinker, reader, and writer.

The main assignment and the most difficult was the research paper. But, at the same time was the most interesting to write. The research paper allowed me to obtain knowledge about government policies, health, and poverty worldwide. The book I read, “Pathologies of Power” was my favorite activity in this class. This book led me to write an interesting and thoughtful argument about “Poverty and the Emerging of Diseases.” Together, the book and the research paper, helped me develop critical thinking to organize, revise, refute opposition, and build an adjusted argument for rhetorical context. Also, free writing assignments, drafts, and peer reviews make possible for me to construct reasoned, well-supported written arguments on a variety of academic topics. Feedback through Writer’s Memos was my favorite part of the course. The active communication between teacher and student was an essential step in my journey. Every comment and revision made, help me to acquire a solid academic foundation I will need to successfully earn my bachelor’s

Looking back on the last four years of my life as a student of English, I have come to the conclusion that they were years well spent. Throughout these four years, I have gained a wealth of knowledge and experience that is indispensable, and will be of great value to me in the career path I am pursuing. I take pride in the fact that I am not just an English major, but have concentrated in Advanced Composition and Rhetoric. This sense of dignity; however, was not always at the forefront of my mind or even considered, for on more than one occasion I had doubts concerning the process, and even became somewhat antagonistic towards the requirements I had to take to complete the process. These feelings of doubts and antagonism stem from the…

Freshman Composition I’s course objective was designed to help students “focus on developing and expressing ideas clearly and effectively to communicate with various audiences for various purposes and occasions, through written, oral, aural, and visual venues by means of individual and team projects.” Throughout this course my classmates and I reviewed principles of the writing process, including: planning, logical organizational, development strategies, revision, and editing, we were also introduced to rhetorical techniques and vigorous library research. With those techniques, this course has helped my classmates and I develop critical thinking skills like: summary, paraphrase, analysis, evaluation, and synthesis of multiple sources. Before I began this class my writing process consisted of simply being assigned as assignment by my high school english teachers and coming up with an essay at the top of my head that properly fit the space requirement and prompt that I would then turn in the day it was due.…

These experiences allowed me to improve my persuasion techniques, my ability to find reliable information, and editing skills.…

Throughout the entirety of this English 101 course, I have seen my skills as a writer grow. In the beginning of the school year, my writing fell short of my expectations, but as I continued to work and learn the principles of writing, I have written papers that I am proud to say are mine. Among the aspects of my writing I have improved, the best strives are seen within my my counter arguments and overall strength and coherency of my papers. To begin, when looking at a paper I wrote in August on necessity of first drafts, there were large gaps in my elaboration, bringing concerns as to whether I was arguing and proving a point or merely summarizing what Lamott, the author of the article, originally said. When attempting to argue my evidence, I stated,…

Over the course of this semester in my English 1320 class I have seen a drastic change throughout my writing style. Although I still have difficulties with a few writing tasks, I believe that I have improved significantly throughout this course. I have found that with my professor’s guidance along with my own personal editing that my grades have increased. Although it is difficult to not get caught up in simply striving for a letter grade or attaining a 4.0 grade point average, I would like to believe that my main goal was different. Of course I would love to achieve those goals as well, but overall my primary goal throughout this class was to become more relaxed and comfortable in my writings, to use new strategies and proper kinds of conventions, and to truly find a way to express my passion on these papers.…

Over the course of the semester, many improvements were made, but some things still remain the same. The deeper knowledge and understanding of the usage of rhetorical devices, an introduction to the OC method, and better understanding for the purpose and audience has helped improve my writing.
