It is not ironic that I choose to rewrite the first essay that I ever wrote as a Nittany Lion, my rebuttal argument. Looking back to the awkward freshmen that walked into the first day of English 15 and the person that I am today, I realized that I grew in many ways. This includes my maturity level, my independence, my social life, and, yes, my writing. I was completely closed minded about my writing abilities at the beginning of the semester. I convinced myself that I was not a good writer and that English 15 was going to be the worst experience ever; this was because of my past writing experiences. To my dismay, I realized that English 15 was one of the best experiences that I have had in my whole life. I had a difficult time writing the rebuttal argument because I did not know where to start. Before this course, all my highschool teachers would tell me, “This paper is an A in highschool, but when you get to college it is a C.” Furthermore, I only recalled writing a total of two essays in my whole high school career. This apprehension and fear lead me to freeze up, making writing an impossible task at first. I finally ended up settling on the topic: the effect media has on women. I then when on to write a three page paper about this topic. Writing my first paper in English 15 made me realize that I had so many areas when I can improve, but also, that there are many resources available to help you succeed. During the course of English 15 and the concepts that I learned in class, I realized that I was trying to make my first paper something that it could not be.
