The community college I currently attend has been helpful these past few years, However, I feel I have reached an ending point. There are not a lot of networking opportunities available to me, nor are there other beneficial classes for my goals. I feel I have used all the resources available there and wish to open myself for further growth. I want to be able to teach or offer support for others who struggle emotionally and academically in the world, and I feel I would be better able to surpass this with a higher education. Along with this, I feel the need to surround myself with different types of people who both share and are different from my views in a supportive and conducive environment.…

It has been four of the most rough, amazing and successful years in high school, all that because the right people came into my life. Today, those people became the closest friends to me: my best friends. As a matter of fact, they became my second family. If it weren’t for them, I would still be the quiet, shy and self-hiding person I use to be. Luckily, the way life works with meeting new people, and new places gave me the opportunity to move on from who I once was to outshine myself into who I really am by accepting the right people into my life.…

The transition to attending college really began, for me, at move-in. Before that, I had not even tried to prepare for it, I just decided to figure it all out as it happened. Well that, and I have a huge tendency to procrastinate so I just put it all off until the last second. Attending college has not really changed my life as much as I expected it to. I have been going on through life pretty much the same as I was before arriving at college.…

My academic experience at Union College is the culmination of my varied academic experience growing up. I began my education in a highly diverse elementary school (2001-2007), which laid a critical foundation of being globally conscious of differing cultural beliefs and practices. Next, I attended a middle/high school named Lehman Alternative Community School (LACS) (2007-2012), that neither provided letter grades nor used exams as the principle ways to evaluate student’s abilities. LACS instilled a foundation of critical thinking abilities and pushed me to advocate and take initiative in my academic and professional endeavors. In 11th grade, I opted to transfer to the public, conventional school named Ithaca High School (2012-2013).…

Participating in the pursuit of human expression and truth by acting in the art of theatrical storytelling throughout my childhood and high school years has molded me into a better educated and more expressive individual, in turn changing my life and person for the better. Theater alone has tested and dramatically altered my personal and political views. With that, it has brought me face to face with multiple issues I would have never encountered otherwise. The first significant challenge I encountered in my theatrical objective was the decision to undermine my father’s expectation of me pursuing a career in engineering- like him- and instead dedicating my high school years to the study and participation in theatre. My identity shifted further after being…

College as a whole is not at all what I expected it to be like, just because I was able to wake up early for highschool it doesn’t even equal up to waking up early for a college class. High School vs. College Everyone always tells you college is the best time of your life and that you should cherish every moment. Growing up, my parents always believed that college was a time not only to further your education but to gain intangibles as well.
