Volunteering not only helps socially in our communities, but also economically. I believe it helps economically because we could contribute to getting homeless people back in the workforce. In addition, many places that help people in need are more often than not on strict budgets, and I believe if people volunteer than perhaps those locations or agencies wouldn’t have to spend as much money on employees and instead have many rotating volunteers, this could also allow them to use funds for other urgent matters. According to the Corporation for National and Community Service, 61.8 million individuals in the United States contributed 8 billion hours of volunteerism in 2008 alone.…

This day school is a church in neighborhood where many people use to put their kids in while they go to work. During the summer I would volunteer where there would be almost 50 kids in the summer camp. It was so chaotic at times. I accomplished gaining great friendships with many kids and teachers that I could never forget.…

Because of my experience as a Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC) I realized not only do I love helping people but I want to center my life around helping children. I've been involved in many different types of service activities but the one that has impacted me the most was being a YVC I volunteer over the summers supervising and mentoring children from second to eighth grade. Over each summer I've seen myself and the children grow, both helping each other see the world through others eyes. I still visit the kids I've had in the past years and seeing them go off into high school shocks and excites me because I know how mature they grow over the years. Through the summer with the eighth graders the volunteers try to help them mature to…

As a Diversity Scholar I currently volunteer 10- 12 hours a year for the Department of Community Engagement and Multicultural center on campus. Yet, due to my demanding work schedule I am unable to participate in many other community service projects. However, if selected for the Shawn Carter foundation scholarship I plan to meet the 25hr/ of community service requirement by joining the Diversity Outreach Team, Volunteering at the Campus food pantry, and Participating in Alternative Spring break. “I have to go here, dad. I just have to,” I told my father during our first tour of Colorado Mesa University’s campus. “I already feel like a Maverick,” I admitted as I straightened out my new CMU ball cap from the campus bookstore. It was a strange feeling knowing that I would no longer be Lakeland High School’s most spirited student, but there was excitement in knowing that I would soon show my pride for Colorado Mesa. Images of my blue and white spirit wear quickly changed to be maroon and gold.…

We spent a whole day at my school doing simple tasks such as garden cleaning, moving old furniture, covering graffiti, repainting old walls and stairwells. In the end, volunteering had a huge impact not only on me but also the community around me. It enabled me to connect with my community and make my school a better place. I realized that helping out with the simplest and smallest tasks can make a drastic difference in society. If we were to lose physical space, people would surrender their desire to obtain public good.…

However, as I walk away from my English 102 class I carry the understanding of writing a college level essay, undertaking research and completing a research and argument paper properly, and knowledge to prepare me for my other classes and profession.…

Reflection Writing this reflection about the experience of doing the professional project with a team has made me realize that communication is the most vital part in the project not only with clients but also with group members. My group has an important client, which is the Brisbane Airport Corporation. As we all know that Brisbane airport has a strict security system, which means we should accept security check when we enter the inside airport and their staff will follow us wherever we go in the airport. This is a little bit complex than other projects but more interesting.…
