Reflective Essay For Duke University

• Duke University is described as an “open canvas”. The first step in creating any piece of artwork is to find inspiration. My inspiration stems from the research opportunities offered to English majors and the chance to continue my internship research on creating methods to predict Charcot foot in diabetic patients. The next step is sketching the image, which will come through having the freedom to design my own interdisciplinary curriculum that will combine my passion for both science and English. I will layer this canvas by painting a meaningful experience through advocating for gender equality with the Blue Devils United, servicing the community through the Duke Scouting Association and further pursuing my interests of science and English

Idaho Governors Cup Scholarship Application I am a native Idahoan, straight and foremost which means that I have had the privilege of being raised in great place that has taught me much. From being able to kayak to knowing how to be a part of a community that is what I learned being an Idahoan is, However, what it should also mean to be an Idahoan is to be educated. An Idahoan should strive for more such as earning a degree or receiving an education beyond that of getting a high school diploma. I am applying for this scholarship because I feel that Idaho deserves better in the sense that as a part of this state, I personally should set forward to further myself by obtaining a degree that I can take with me into the future.…

In the three essays written by Dillard, Appiah, and Pratt, they all use different examples but focus overall on the same “big picture”. They’re all part of a larger conversation, but they each stepped back and put in their own point of view on this subject. The main subject they all discuss is seeing. Dillard talks about how what people see is what they get. If they look for positivity and see positivity in everything, then they will get positivity out of it, and vice versa.…

When you get this letter 10 years will have passed since I was in your position. I never really considered that I had a racist bone in my body. I mean, most if not all of my friends then were minorities of some sort, and I got along just fine with them. But subconsciously I began to notice that the successes of minorities irritated me because part of me believed I was better than they were. So I began to try to find ways to justify my superiority so that I could avoid the reality that if I didn’t really start cracking down I would lose out to people of color.…

There are several qualities which are essential for a Special Constable at McMaster University. These qualities are integrity, quality, inclusiveness, teamwork, critical thinking, personal growth and a passion for life long learning. In terms of integrity and quality, I have demonstrated these with my steady employment at the Royal Ontario Museum over the last 10 years and my discipline free employment history. Integrity is the cornerstone of building trust with our community, I believe that being willing to learn from others, and being accountable when we make mistakes demonstrates the ability to be accountable for our actions and decisions. This also relates to the quality of service that members of museum have come to expect from me as…

Joining the New Visions program was one of the wisest decisions I have made. When nurses that I shadow at Unity Hospital express how jealous they are that they didn’t have a program like this when they were in high school, it reminds me to take advantage of this opportunity that not every student receives. I am confident that when I graduate college, I will be able to recollect this program, and how it led me to be successful. I will reminisce about the long hours dedicated to each college-level assignment in determination to receive a grade in the high 90’s, or that moment when I witnessed a five pound baby be born from a cesarean delivery, or even when I stood next to the operating table observing a total knee replacement surgery, while the surgeon and nurses took the time to teach me about what they were doing--an opportunity that not even college nursing students were able to see. Every assignment I completed, conversation I had, and person I met, has transformed me into a more educated and open minded student.…

At the beginning of the year, Professor Fama told the Pre-Calculus class that our senior year would go by more quickly than any other year of our lives. I think now every member of the class of 2017 can attest to just how true this statement was. I know it sounds cliché, but it really does seem like just yesterday we were organizing homecoming, planning our senior trip, fund raising for our senior trip, finally going on our senior trip, decorating for prom, and enjoying our last Crusader Day, or, as we like to call it, Crudader Day. While it is the fun memories like those I just mentioned that tend to stick out in our minds, I think it is important that we also acknowledge the stuff that maybe wasn't so fun; the days we were swamped with homework, cramming for tests, finishing projects at the last minute, the time spent in classes that maybe weren't our favorite, the stress and hard work that went into planning some of our excursions, and all the other frustrations that tested us throughout the year. Whether we realized it in the moment or not, these struggles we faced were teaching us lessons just as valuable as what we were learning in academic classes; lessons about leadership, perseverance, the value of hard work, and, perhaps most importantly, teamwork.…

This concept communicates the message that they would not have to pay anything for their health insurance – it is appealing but hard to believe. It sounds like you wouldn’t have to pay anything, that they would pay for everything. Makes me think I would pay nothing OOP. We pay a deductible and a copay. I would love not to do that, which is what the commercial says its doing..…

I organised the calendars of the Bureau advisors and scheduled their appointments. I logged any letters we received in the database and alert the advisors who the information was most relevant to. It was also my responsibility to send the post off. I created reports on cases; then updated them whenever the bureau received new information. This experience identifying relevant information and recording it accurately will serve me well as a commercial solicitor overcoming both commercial and legal obstacles on a daily basis.…

The Final Test I passed the final test, but they didn’t. It all started with my class, called the “9ers”. We were the first class to ever have their whole grade graduate on the same day. We were the smartest of them all, is what the counselor told us. All we had to do was pass the final test to figure out who were leaving to go to the new community.…

After finishing the English 101 course I feel like I have accomplished many of the goals that I was challenged with the beginning of the course, such as critically thinking and reading with text from the textbook “Dialogues” by Gary Goshgarian, substantively replying to my peers to understand their point of views from the text and to get a better understanding of a rhetorical argument. Thinking and reading critically were very important this whole course. Thinking and reading critically were something you would have to do in every assignment that was given. Incorporating it in every assignment has helped us greatly improve week by week and betters our understanding of each topic and the assignments main idea.…

It’s hard to imagine that this time last year I was attending high school with my best friends, seeing my family every night, and wishing graduation would come faster. Now I am living 5 hours away from that familiar area, taking care of myself, and studying for finals. This first semester of freshman year has been incredible, eye opening, and a lot shorter than I could have ever imagined. One thing I’ve learned through this semester that it is actually okay to eat meals by yourself and walk to class alone. Before college I purposely tried to avoid sitting at the lunch table by myself at all costs.…

When it comes to Composition 1, I learned a lot. In the beginning I wanted to learn how to become a better and creative writer. After finishing Composition 1, I can say that I did accomplish all of those goals.…

Everyone hates English class is what I thought before taking English 102. However, that may have been the case before I entered Dr. Byrd’s domain, but after finishing the class I have come to the realization that English class can be greatly resourceful. English 102 this year has had its ups and downs, and I must admit the ups outweigh the downs. Meaning, this year, I have learned that I am not a student who wants to read or write, but through reading and writing my mind and skill sets concerning English have grown. During English 102 this year, reading and writing in class helped me expand my writing skills, improved my will to comprehend, and most importantly helped expand my knowledge.…

I came home from work one day, and found my daughter’s school interim report card on the kitchen table. She usually gets really good grades, earning nothing below a B. However, to my surprise, this time around she came home with a C in History. Now, we had just bought her a new iPhone a few months prior to this incident because, as it turns out, she had made the all A honor roll. But inevitably, as with most teenagers, she ends up dedicating a considerable amount of time on her newly acquired mobile device. Immediately, the first thought that ran through my mind was that she had been distracted by the phone and had gotten careless in her studies.…
