Through attending a neuroscience program called Camp Neuro at the New York Medical College and taking AP psychology, I have been able to apply my knowledge in myriad classes. My understanding of the biopsychosocial approach to psychology helps me analyze texts in English and moral situations in ethics. The interdisciplinary seminar Modes of Being would serve as a way to continue this intellectual exploration that I am already pursuing in conjunction with my major in psychology. I find that through my experiences, I have been prepared to be both successful and active in this community. The small class sizes will also contribute to my success. While I work well in both small and large groups, I find that smaller groups grant me more freedom to take risks and question. I know that I will thrive in this class setting. In ninth grade, I took art history and took weekly visits to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Through studying Greek and Hindu Gods, architecture, and creating my own art gallery using the museum as my primary resource, I have developed a strong appreciation for the arts. This experience forced me to become aware of my own biases and taught me how to advocate. I also attended the Student Diversity Leadership Conference, which exposed me to various issues about racial and gender bias and discrimination. Through these experiences, I have developed a passion for social justice work and advocacy.
