I have long been fascinated by the way politics and economics influence individuals and how decisions made by political leaders can change the course of history. I am intrigued by the historical development of political and economic thought, as evidenced when studying the history of China. Milton Friedman’s Capitalism and Freedom provided me perspective on the connectivity of economic and political freedoms needed to strengthen democratic institutions. I also enjoyed Thomas Piketty’s Capital in the Twenty-First Century for his outlook on global inequality. His argument that rapid economic growth diminishes the importance of wealth was engaging and provided concrete historical data to back concepts such as the Kuznets curve, Gini coefficient and Lorenz curve from macroeconomics. It prompted me to reconsider capitalism’s connection to unsustainable levels of inequality. I am reading Adam Swift’s Political Philosophy to deepen my understanding on political ideals and central issues surrounding equality, community and justice. I am also an avid reader of The Economist for its perceptive commentary on current global affairs. …show more content…

Learning to write When I attended elementary school, part of the curriculum was penmanship. There was a certain segment of instruction dedicated to penmanship rather than writing. We were given large sheets of oat colored paper with three parallel lines widely spaced. The alphabets were used to print and write in cursive using the midpoint, and upper lines for capital letters. The handwriting grades were based on neatness and readability.…

When it comes to understanding yourself and your personality on a deeper level than normally, you must take personal stories into perspective that have shaped your life while growing up. According to McAdams, “defining oneself through a personal story is an act of psychological and social responsibility” (Engler 2009). Psychological and social responsibility relate to how you act onto actions around you and how you tie society into your viewpoint of the world. In other words, explaining yourself through a story can show several things such as how your emotions played an affect, the type of response you displayed to something that happened, and as well as the lessons you learned through a personal but also social aspect. In addition, McAdams…

Viewing the past four essays shows the progress and decline of my writing style, and structure. The four essays that were required by the class varied from the best to the worst, both having their similarities and differences. Choosing two out of the four essays, I came to a conclusion that the “process analysis” essay was the best, and the worst essay was the “descriptive” essay. Although it varied from their definitions and structure, the essay’s showed how much the writer, put their work into it. The certain characteristics that made it the worst to the best defined how well the essay would turn out to be.…

Writing has been my talent since grade school; I couldn’t sing, or dance but I could write, or so I thought. Then, I entered high school and realized that writing required a lot more than it did in middle school. The brisk pace and advanced comprehension skills required for my English three AP course caused my grades to suffer. I have struggled with college level essay writing tremendously, but through hard-work I have been able to write with more ease and finesse than ever before.…

In the end, I can reflect that I learned from my mistakes and wrote papers that took time and dedication to accomplish. Reflection Writing this reflection about the experience of doing the professional project with a team has made me realize that communication is the most vital part in the project not only with clients but also with group members. My group has an important client, which is the Brisbane Airport Corporation. When we were deciding on our interview questions (as seen in part 6), one of the first things that we had to address was our own personal biases towards our applicants, as we all have varying relationships with them. When we wrote the questions, we intentionally wrote them open-ended and with as minimal guidance as possible so that we could gauge their pure responses without unfair coaching. The way the questions were written was the exact way we recited them to the applicants for uniformity reasons. All of the measures we took to ensure that these were fair interviews resulted in us coming up with a mathematical way to grade the applicants responses. Because of the biases we were aware of, we decided that a mathematical approach would best choose our applicant, as opposed to debating and/or deciding subjectively; thusly, objectivity was paramount to our interview question development, delivery, and in grading each and every applicant’s response.…
