Reflective Essay: Five-Day Diet

Improved Essays
After tracking my food for five days straight, it is safe to say that I consumed way too much sodium, added sugars, saturated fats, and total fats. However, on the other hand, I did not consume enough dietary fiber, calcium, potassium, copper, iron, magnesium, zinc, vitamin A, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E, and choline. Although according to the report than basically all of my vitamin levels are under, I do take 2 gummy multivitamins to make up for those loses. My weekend day diet actually did not change, compared to the other weekdays. The only thing that changed was that I did not eat breakfast since I woke up late and grabbed lunch before I had to be at work that afternoon. However, the majority of the weekend days, I get up at a decent time to eat breakfast, …show more content…
Although I do not typically go over my calorie count, I still go over in the sodium and fat area. It makes me realize that eating all of this fast food and junk foods will catch up to me eventually, and as a dance instructor, I should be more aware of what I eat and how to maintain a healthy body. I also learned that I should eat a better or more healthy breakfast in the mornings as that is the most important meal of the day since it energizes you for the day to come. I do not think that powdered doughnuts have any nutritional values that will keep me on my feet for the day. This is just showing me that I need to get up earlier in the mornings to give me time to sit down and enjoy a healthy breakfast rather than grabbing something to eat, running out of the door, and eating it on the go.
Although this diet analysis shows that I eat fast food every part of the day, I typically eat at home a lot during the week, but my family has been busy with different things. Overall, my diet needs to change for the better or I will face the consequences in the future as I get older and my metabolism begins to

Summary Throughout the Fitwell nutrition project I made many discoveries about my diet. Based on the Harris Benedict Equation, I found that I am eating approximately four hundred calories more than the suggested amount. This somewhat surprised me because I have not gained any weight since I arrived at college. However, what most likely put me over the top was my consumption of soft and crunchy white chocolate macadamia nut cookies that I so much enjoy.…

Reviewing the vitamin section of my 5-day dietary report it is apparent that I am failing to reach the DRI for the vitamin Alpha-Tocopherol and vitamin D while surpassing the DRI for vitamin A. To increase my consumption of Alpha-Tcocphaerol (vitamin E) I can consume more avocados, spinach, and egg yolks are also a good source. To increase my vitamin D in take to reach the DRI I can consume more fish such as tuna and salmon. Lastly, my diet was high in vitamin A that can be harmful to my health if it builds up for the remaining part of my life. In order to reach an appropriate range of vitamin A in my diet I will can consume less carrots as I eat them regularly as a snack throughout my day.…

Based on the comparison data that has been compiled from my 3-day food diary on Eatracker, running from March 13th to March 15th, each day I basically ate meals that consisted of the same food with small substitutions between the 3 days. For instance, for breakfast I would have my lemon water and omelet everyday and dinner I would usually have chicken with a side dish that could vary from roasted potatoes, Caesar salad or brown rice and for. From a young age, my parents have always enforced the idea of eating healthy constantly badgering me to eat my vegetables or have a piece of protein with my meals. Although I might not have understood why their reprimanding was important, over the course of these last few weeks in biology I have come to realize that having a sound diet in many ways encompasses what it means to be healthy and live life to its fullest. By actively moderating, recording, and learning about what I have been eating I can now clearly understand that my parents were right to encourage healthy eating in my home. My parent, specifically my mother, was always the one who cooked and influenced my healthy eating at a young age. When looking at my food logs for this…
